Does anyone have a photograph of a restored exhaust manifold valve on a 440 HP (68 Charger R/T)? trying to find out if I'm missing pieces on mine. Mine works and has a small spring, but I'm not sure how they exactly work. Anyone with information - greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Even a shop diagram would do.  ;)

If you are talkin' about the heat riser valve, check this link out:

Mine was removed and the holes were welded shut.

Shakey, thanks. I think I can now compare 8WHEELER's photo to mine. Dang, I did a search too and did'nt find it. My searching abilities suck  :rotz:

The wound flat spring on the valve shaft closes the valve, as the spring heats it unwinds and allows the valve to open with less exhaust pressure. At idle the valve will usually flap open and closed with the exhaust pulses; the bob weight acts as both a damper and an open stop.

The coil spring maintains pressure on the shaft to prevent rattling.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

On mine, I only have the little spring on the outside. Valve flap opens and closes freely. I guess my inner spring is broken.  JK, so you mean that the valve/flab should always be on the closed position? The exhaust pressure opens the flap and the little spring on the outside keeps the rattle down. Is my understanding correct?
