Leaf spring strap

Two of the straps that hold the leaf springs together on the rear of the left leaf spring were removed on my '68 R/T Charger. This car had a few other things done to it to hop up the performance. Would there be any performance reason to remove these straps?

yes, removing them from the rear allows greater spring seperation during drag launches, which plants tires better.
