leaking tire

So I have this leaking wheel on mom's car. It has chrome coating and supposedly it's coming off thus not making seal. I've talked to les schwab (local tire dealer) and they said I need new wheel. I've asked them if they can put tube in it they said they can't. I don't feel like spending hundreds of dollars on new rims. Besides this is factory wheel so I'd like to keep it that way. If I had tire changed I would've attempted to sand it and seal it myself but knowing these guys they just want to make a sale. What would you guys recommend? A couple of tubes of a fix-a-flat lol?

did you have to take tire off? Permatex has a lot of products, which one did you use?

No, as long as you can get the tire off of the side of the rim a bit and get some permatex in there you will be good.

The tire dealer should have some bead sealer at his place that he can put in there and that should seal it up. I did that to the Belvedere's tire a weeks ago and its still holing air just fine before I was luck to keep air in there for a day or so.

Get another wheel...  craigslist, ebay or car-part.com and do what you gotta do and have the tire swapped over.

While I wouldn't recommend tubes,  I'm curious why they wouldn't sell you that as opposed to a wheel they're not gonna get paid for.   Except for one local place that charges accordingly,  I don't think much of any tire joints around me.  If looking at your wheel takes anything more than a couple minutes,  it's not getting done.   Slop on some bead sealer, blow it back up and roll it away.

Old wrench's like me hate fixaflat.   You're not making any friends when you finally bring that tire in to get fixed.

Otherwise,  have it dismounted,  fix what you gotta fix yourself and have it remounted and balanced.
