Watched the movie again tonight- wondering if there is any info about the wicked Daytona he drives in it. Tried a search but got no hits. Can anyone tell me about the car? Please don't tell me it had a small block bowtie in it!

Ghoste

No Chevy engine.  :icon_smile_big:  It's still around but I'm not sure who has it now.  It was auctioned off a while back.

bull

IIRC it was actually a pretty nice car that they dumbed down for the movie.

On a side note, do you guys ever find a lot of joy and entertainment in reading messages on boards where 98% of the members have no idea what they're talking about?

I'm totally expecting that kind or rat-rod movement to start showing up in the musclecar world.  It's coming, it's only a matter of time.

Musclecars are just now starting to get old enough for this.  A car just has to get old enough that seeing one in scruffy 1982 condition (but NOT in 1992 levels of serious decay) has become way less common than seeing them gorgeous and restored.

It was at Mopar Nats a few years ago. Had a restored looking 440.

Thanks for the thread...great time was had by all...the fun part is that they truly believe they are in the know! I'm a newby at all the details but I have read many posts that even I know these folks are just blowing smoke. It's like being at Garlits and Mr. Mopar showing up talking smack about the 500. (Seriously...he actually said, "They call me MR. MOPAR). He picked the car apart and was dead wrong on all counts. His three friends in tow were all believing...my guys walked away and left me with him. That's when he got REALLY knowledgable about the car...he knew the previous owner...blah, blah, blah. I just go Blonde...and smile...a lot! Friend walked up and I introduced him to MR. MOPAR...this friend really did know the original owner...he was a Blue Angel. We both just listened and attempted to not laugh.

no doubt, i get "schooled" a lot, including a 45 minute rant two days ago about how a slant 6 5.0 mustang a friend of mine owned would "dust so hard it would be embarassing" my coronet, i just smiled and nodded and he was throwing out some amazing stats at me, like how his slant 6 had 440 horse power  :smilielol: (this is a ford 223 slant 6.......145hp with 206 torque and an 8.8 rear end) , and my coronet only had 200 tops (270 hp with 230 torque, not including it being bored out or the low pressure cams with an 8 3/4, not to mention my tires are 2 inches bigger)
the funniest thing is it was 100% unprovoked, like I said I had gotten it, and I was planning on getting a rolling charger body and dropping my drive train into it after I fixed it up, and that was it, he just went off.  Started saying it would be like racing a volvo, at which point I just cut him off like "so......pinks?"  I have never seen a person turn ghost white before, i tell ya what tho, that car hauled ass after i said that.

ah just tooled for a lower pressure ignition in conjuction with the piston heads, squeeze a few extra hp and a little more efficiency out, fucks with the timing some but after the re-tune I saw like an extra mpg and about 5 hp.

dude was talking about it when I bought it and i was like.....yeah right.....but apparently his buddy is an engine fabricator and designed it so it uses less mechanical energy, I looked at the design and it def didnt look stock, but the car starts up nice, it had a few misses but it was abandoned for a little while, so I re-brushed the spark plugs and it was fine.

I hope so. My car will be King Shizznit from the Kingdom of Turd in that day and age.
