You would be suprised how many "innocent" sites harbour malicious code.
Myspace ought to be renamed myVirus
even pictures can contain malicious code.
Heck my friend wrote a script that resided in a JPG file that told him who was using his images online.
So the school is trying to protect themselves. Just think if you lost all your coursework because some "too Smart" kid went around the security measures to download an mp3 or picture, only to find it had a trojan?
Wouldnt you be a little upset at them?
Leave well alone, and if you really must browse get a darn iPhone or WM device

I just think its all overdone, I mean think about it, seniors in highschool are practically adults right? I mean ya i understand that if they are looking at pornography but what about myspace? Or dodgecharger.com? Or any other harmless website.

Correct me if I'm wrong but you don't own the computer, they do. Schools have a pretty tight budget as it is. They use this software to protect their computers from bored kids that will inevitably go wander around stupid sites and clog the system with spyware, malware, viruses, and rootkits. Most schools have at least a couple hundred desktops/laptops connected to their networks. How pissed would you be if you were the network admin and some kid bypassed the network and unintentionally (or intentionally) caused a trojan to infect the whole network?

What I'm trying to say is, you're just going to have to suffer like everyone else and check your sites when you get home. Or if you are actually too smart for the class, start getting ahead in another class or take a nap and dream of boobs.

people may not want to be an ass, but I will. It's not up to you so decide what is overdone or dumb, it is also not up to you to try to get rid of safety measures put into place to protect other students and the schools... not yours... but the SCHOOLS computers.

They don't allow other media because other media... this includes your Ipod can carry virus's that will tear through their network costing them money. The Inet measures are to ensure that they don't get sued if you happen to stumble on a site you shouldn't be in and some parrent walking in see's you looking at a set of hooters... If your too smart for your call. Use the time to study on other classes you may not be too smart in  :Twocents:

The reason I'm being a jerk in my wife is a high school teacher and has to deal with this all the time. The people hired to setup that schools network are smarter then you. You will get caught because the traffic is being monitors. Proxie websites that anyone will give you are most likely also known by the people who take care of your schools network.... do yourself a favor and use school to learn. Not to play.

Bring your own computer...laptop to school and you won't have that problem. All universities have their own wireless access. Computer controls are put there for their hardwares protection. Can you imagine a universal crash on a universities computer system. All the information, private, that could be hacked and/or destroyed is amazing. So buy a laptop and do as you wish...just make sure you do your work first...the mom.
