I'm looking for another engine, but I want to make sure there's no down falls for getting a 440 that came out of a motorhome or van.

Your thoughts & experiences?

I'm trying to upgrade from my 383.

The newer (post '73) engines have cast cranks (but still "LY" rods), LOW compression and ridiculous cams... I just slapped a '77 block together with a stock rotating assembly and the "HP" cam, #1 piston is .134 down the hole at TDC.  :smilielol: :smilielol:
The weird thing is, some people seem to squeeze a lot of power out of these "boat anchors".
Found a thread on moparts, guys sticking .509's and .528's in these blocks, slapping on good heads and dipping into the twelves, even elevens with lighter cars. An interesting read.

'70 Charger 500: "Bronson", some kind of hillbilly hot rod in progress.
'89 Chevy Caprice 9C1: "it's got a cop motor..."

Once you machine the block and install a new cam and pistons you'll be fine. ;)

Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.
