Pad near distributor reads

5 T 440 E
10

Block casting number 4006630-440-8

What is confusing to me is that I would expect this motor to be for a 1975 car but the casting number does not say that?

The car has 4006452 heads with a J114 casting date. So that would tell me it is for a 1975 car too.

I dont ahve the block casting date. I wish I had that.

My camera died and dont remember the other numbers on the second line of the pad.

Any comments about the casting number and what appears to be a 1975 block?

5 T 440 E
10

5= 1975
T= Built at the Trenton engine plant
440= Displacement
E= Cast crankshaft
10= Build date but incomplete

The head J114 casting date is 9-11-1974

Various sources disagree on the first year of the 4006630 basic block casting number, some say '76 others say '78 so it sould justa as easily be '75 since everything else on your engine agrees.

My 440 came from a '78...but the block casting says it was poured on january of 74.....figure that one out???

The casting date of the block is 9-20-74, motor build date 10-17-74, heads casting date 10-11-74. Appears to be original heads for the motor but who knows. I dont care either way.

heads casting date 10-11-74.

When letters are used to denote the month the letter "I" is omitted because it resembles the numeral "1". "J" is the ninth month.
