Fiberglass or metal?

I'm sure that this question has been asked before, but, here we go.  I have a real Daytona that I am in the middle of restoring. I have a fiberglass nose that is on a clone that I purchased before I got the "Real Deal". (thought I would never get a real one) I could use this nose and I have an original Race Wing.(will not be using) I was planning on purchasing an aftermarket metal wing, and getting a metal nose. But.....money is an object. I am selling other cars that I have been collecting just to pay for the restoration. Giving these cars away right now, in this economy, is an understatement. So.......

Do I use the Fiberglass nose that I already have, or do I get a metal one???  (I will not be selling this car...ever. already put it in my trust for my son)

If you are planning tokeep the car and you are going to the trouble to restore it, enough so that you are sacrificing other cars you liked enough to buy in the first place, then do it right and put the metal one on.  Yes, it canbe a tough choice and paying for it can mean delays in completing the car but I think it's better to complete it properly.  The old addage "if it's worth doing- it's worth doing right" comes to mind.
A real Daytona deserves a real Daytona nose.

If it were my car, I would contact Jack at Wingcarfab and have a steel nose made for the car.
I bought one of Dane's hollow aluminum wings for my Daytona clone and it would be a great replacement for a missing wing on a real Daytona.
You won't be truly happy with the car until it's done right.  :Twocents:

hey

if your building a real daytona ,i would use a metal nose and one of Dane's wings . if i put a fiberglass nose on a real daytona . every time i looked at it ,  all i would see is the fiberglass nose . do it rite the first time

100% metal nose if you are NEVER selling it. Your son will appreciate it when he learns of the cars value and fantastic racing history.
This car was sold many years ago to somebody in Wisconsin. I now am retired and living in Florida.

it's your car your keeping it  use the fiberglass nose now , Then once its done and the economy is better , if it still bothers you get a steel one .  :Twocents: :Twocents:

If you have a good original nose.Or a NOS one.Save it to the garage .And run a glass one.You can replace a glass one over and over :Twocents:

This is the quandry that I find myself in.
I already have the glass nose. Paid for. I wish I had an NOS nose but I haven't been that lucky, Nor can I afford one. A steel one will not be cheap. But sure as shootin, I put the glass nose on it and I will hear from every Camaro owning, Galen Govier wanna be, how incorrect my car is, and I would never hear the end of it. (I get Idiots calling my Superbird a Clone all the time cause it doesn't have the holes cut in the fenders like the Daytona) (that one really bugs me) But, I am really close to having everything that I need to start on the car NOW. Do I wait, and get the nose, or do it now and replace it later.

Thanks for all the Response.

Everyone thinks my Daytona is a clone because it has a fiberglass nose. Of course it is a clone, but that's just coincidental.  ;D

Yes, I have heard that a lot as well. In fact I did have a guy tapping on the nose of my Bird at Hot August Nights in Reno Nevada last year. I told him to stop, and he looked at me like I had spoke to him in another language. The same show I had a guy grab my WING, and proceeded to shake the whole car back and forth to "See" if it was real. What are people thinkin?? I wish that times like that, Manslaughter could be justified. :RantExplode:

WTF?  Makes me not want a Daytona or Super Bird.  I would not be happy if anyone touched my car, period.
This car was sold many years ago to somebody in Wisconsin. I now am retired and living in Florida.

Moparheaven

You would be MORTIFIED at the stories of stupid people touching my car. I was really surprised at what people think is OK. It's almost like they lose their minds around it.

I can say, when driving it, it's like driving around with a nake lady on top of my car. Their really is nothing else like it. My buddy that is also my Transmission Mechanic and fixes stuff when I can't figure it out, has an Original 69 Coronet RT 4spd car that is very nice. He said that he refuses to drive it anymore because he doesn't get the attention in his car that he gets in the Bird.

FJ5WING

Put the car together with the glass nose and if needed or desired later you can swap out a steel unit, I know it sounds easy but like you stated you already own a glass nose.

One reason for all the attention that car gets is the color! :drool5: Along with the 2 foot tall wing and the slopped nose with pop up headlights and decals that scream PLYMOUTH down the side of the car. :smilielol:

I love it! :2thumbs:

heres my Dirty Bird...before I torn it down.

wingless now, but still around.

How about a dealer that is willing to take out motor or trans of a new 69 daytona .And sell it to a racer. And this not the only ad that mentions fiberglass or plastic body parts.Which is only headlights and scoops
