Options for finding #'s matching transmission

Hello all.  I'm new to this board, but was a member of the old board years back.

I have a 1969 Charger R/T, XS29L9 car.  Began restoration in June 2001, Body was completed and had a running car (no interior) in mid 2004.  It then went into storage until last week.  I have a matching broadcast sheet, and fender tag for the car which we found in late 2001 while stripping the car.  I have verified a numbers matching block, but it seems the transmission has been replaced somewhere along the way...

So...anyone have any tips for tracking down the correct trans?  Serial on the trans I have is A103752, Looking for B244141.  It's a 727 torqueflite BTW.

Since it's not #'s matching anyway...What do you purists think about converting to a 4 speed?  :icon_smile_big:

Tracking down the original trans is just as likely as winning a lottery or getting hit by lightning.  About all you can do is put the word out over a bunch of internet forums and hope for the best.
As for converting to a four speed, wth it's your car.  Worry less about numbers matching and more about having fun with it.
Me personally, I would leave it as is but that is just my own  :Twocents:.

Engines & transmissions do make it back to their cars every once in a while.  :2thumbs:

Since you have a 1969 Charger, start here;

Here is a good place also...Moparts.com "engine/trans lost and found"

I'd hardly call it "not #'s matching". You do have the original engine, a fender tag, and a build sheet. That's alot more than some people have. How accurate did you make the resto? Did you add options, change colors, etc? If you already did, then I'd say go with the 4-speed, just save all the parts to change it back or go with the car if you ever sell it. If you did a pretty stock/accurate resto, then I'd keep it an auto. In the end, it's your car, and if you plan on keeping it a while, do whatever makes you happy.

I was just refering to the trans when saying "not numbers matching", not the whole car.  You are correct, I have a lot more documentation than most.  Very fortunate!

I was being a little facetious when talking about a 4 speed conversion.  I would love it to have a 4 speed, but I'm not sure I can bring myself to cut up the car!

I'll check that lost and found section, maybe find the correct owner of the trans in my car??

The resto has been pretty accurate.  The only thing changed thus far is the addition of a power brake booster.  That, and I'm not sure the paint turned out R4 red.  It looks a little too orange IMO.  Still have a LONG way to go...

If you want a 4-speed, I say go ahead and do it. It is not that much cutting up of sheet metal. Enjoy it!  :2thumbs:

You should alter your posts here & on Moparts. If a guy has a transmission with 9B 244141 on it, he may not find B255141 if he Googles all 8 digits.  ;)

And, this is what happens to a new 440 when parked in a barn for 4 years.

Though it does not look it, this engine was broken in, and has quite literally ~20 min. of run time on it.  Probably needs at least valve seals by this point...  :brickwall:

second owner (who i've recently been put in contact with thanks to the 69 charger registry!!) purchased the car in the early 80's with a worn out trans.  He had it replaced.  But, no telling if it was even the original by that point...
