Instrument cluster regulator- nos mopar or home built solid state?

Hi,

I've got an nos mopar regulator that I got off of ebay a while back from Rich Ehrenberg of Mopar Action magazine. I pulled my cluster and everything looks ok except for one pin that is a little loose. I'll solder that I guess. I took apart the old one and am going to get the parts to build a solid state version.

I read lilwendal's restoration thread, which was great. He mentions that the actual voltage makes a big difference in the gauge readings. I'd rather not have to calibrate the gauges, so would the nos be better? Is the solid 5 volts from the modern parts the way to go? Or is it not that big of a difference?

I would go with a solid state unit. The original regulators can leave a lot to be desired.

I'd go with the electronic version as well but I would also suggest doing a calibration to make sure your gauges are reading correctly.
