do you have unannounced guys on your door step asking you to sell your Charger?

You know what's crazy is that I DON'T have people asking if it's for sale. My Charger sits in the driveway. I have seen people look at it going by or people taking walks or riding their bikes and tell me nice car if I'm outside. I also hear teens walking along and saying stuff like "That guys got some awesome cars". Not once have I had anyone come by and ask if it's for sale. What's even more crazy is some of the stuff we have had at my best friends house that we have picked up to resell. We've had the garage doors up with a beautiful 69 Orange Judge sittin in one bay and a Chevelle in the next. We've had other GTO's, Chevelles, 69 Camaros and stuff outside there and not once has anyone in that neighborhood showed any interest. It's kind of baffling to me. I ask about musclecars all the time that we find and I get about 20 neckbreakers or more everyday going to work which is only 2 miles away. Yet, no one ever knocks on my door and asks about the Charger.
When I used to have my previous yellow Cuda parked out front, I would have people ask me all the time if it was for sale. They only asked when I was outside though. Not once did anyone knock on my door for it either. I wonder if anyone would ask about my red Cuda if it was out there.
I wouldn't mind people asking now and then. I love talking about them and I love to encourage the love of musclecars, especially in young people.
I took a friends son for a ride in the Charger about a month ago and he just thought that was the best thing in the world. He's about 8 and he told me he has all of the Dukes of Hazzard on DVD. He kept yelling out the window " WOOHOO, I'm riding in the General Lee". Afterwards, I told his dad it would only be a matter of time before he had a father son project going.

They live 6 hours away. I asked his mother if he has been talking about cars more and she said all the time and that he loves some show (I forget which, but I think she said on HBO) that has a Charger in the opening credits. He says, "Yeah, I love it cuz it has a car like Mr. Barry's in it." I think I'm gonna mail him a muscle car pictorial book and really get his Musclecar education going. Gotta keep the spirit alive in these young kids. But, I digress. I have know idea why more people don't come around asking about the cars.

Everything is for sale for the right price.

I had a guy keep leaving notes on my door asking me to call him because he wanted to buy my Charger, the car was parked in front of my house, quite a distance from the road, and under a car cover, he finally stopped one day when my wife was outside, and wanted her to uncover it so he could look at it up close, she told him no way because I wasn't home, but he was going to buy it, she nicely told him it wasn't for sale, and that was his answer, everything is for sale, she again nicely told him that everything may be for sale, but not My Charger, he left informing her that he would be back when I was home, he never showed, I was hoping he would come back, I wanted to hear the everythings for sale speech, some people are so annoying and clueless.

Well, at least your intelligence wasn't insulted.  I drive my car to work about once a week, and this mobile-fix-a-dent dude keeps pestering me about buying my Charger.  Now, that may not be so bad, but he has the nerve to offer me "$2,000" for the car when it's obviously worth a helluva lot more than that; about $15K to be exact.  I mean, there a lot of clueless people out there but I guess I must have "idiot" on my forehead because I know very well what I own.  Seriously, if someone wants to sell their car wouldn't they have a "for sale" sign on it?

-Edit: I was talking to my girlfriend about this the other day and she says that just because there isn't a for sale sign on it doesn't mean that there isn't intent to sell, therefor people will try.  An example she gave me was this: girls don't wear single and seeking signs on their bodies but guys pick up on them all day long.

I guess she's right, but if anyone messes with either her or the car they're dead, lol...

Oh and uh, a polite but definite NO on that thought...   ;)

I actually started to get in an argument at a light today! The jerk kept yelling at me "how much, how much" he kept bugging me when i said "don't worry about it, you don't have enough" he started giving me crap! I know they all think since they have 1500 bucks there rich but come on, I wouldn't sell the six pack for that! I'm getting kinda pissed off and don't want to be rude but some are just pushy! My sons get the car when I die and it's nobody's business but mine, this crap about everything has a price is bull.....if you got more money than my car is worth I don't care...that's my boys memories sitting there. The grin on my youngest sons face when I told him he was going to have to learn to drive in a 70 440 six pack Charger because that's all we got was worth more than money. Anyone know where I can get a "NOT FOR SALE" bumper sticker? (the other one I want is "HONK IF YOU WANT THE CRAP BEAT OUT OF YOU") If I had some made do you think they would sell?(The first one, I'm just kidding about the other)

I'd definitely have some trepidation about such visits.  If I were you I'd be watching my car very closely.

I hear that alot and don't agree.  I've been asked to sell many cars I've owned and said No at any price until I was ready.
This car was sold many years ago to somebody in Wisconsin. I now am retired and living in Florida.

In one of the similar threads to this one, I had posted that people should be cautious of others stopping to inquire about a car that they say they would like to buy. Some people are sincerely enthusiastic about cars & love to talk about them, but you just never know if they aren't some low life scum looking to steal things. One of my friends had a few mid 60's Pontiacs years ago, & he lived in a corner house on a very busy road. This made it extremely easy for a lot of people to see what was parked in the driveway.

He'd get an occasional car enthusiast stopping to talk about his cars, a 1966 Tempest convertible, a 1967 LeMans Sprint, & a 1967 GTO. Of course some would ask if they were for sale, but they weren't at the time. On one occasion, this one guy had talked about the GTO with him, & for whatever reason my friend had opened the trunk while they spoke. There were some spare parts in there, including the tri-power intake & carb set up for the 389. A few days later my friend came home & saw the trunk lid open & the tri-power set up gone.

Gee, I wonder who would've known that was there to take it?  ::)

I've had people stop when mine was in the front driveway, but since I moved it to the back driveway and covered it no issues. I was selling a motorcycle online, guy emails me asking to part it out and gives me a sob story. I say no, I end up selling the bike. He emailed me asking again then had the nerve to ask for the buyers info so he could harass him.  I ended up telling him to pound sand and to not reply to anymore of my ads.

Well for some of us there is just no price for some things...It's assumed when they offer unsolicited like that they are thinking "reasonable" and my car is not for sale anyway (hence no "for sale" sign) so why would you ask? (to get a bargain) Now if you offered a fully restored 440 six pack b5blue inside and out 70 Charger (not done by BK!) in trade I might consider it, but that would not be reasonable. So there we go, I've got exactly the car I'm satisfied with, set up just the way I want, with the exact colors I like best. I'm looking forward to doing the body work and interior someday but love driving it now every day so I try to be polite and say no and some keep pushing for some magic number.....and waste my time, because if they HAD any money they would have pulled up in THEIR Charger and said "Hows it going" instead of "How much".  :yesnod:

Jon Smith

I had loads of people try to buy it when it was parked in view of the road....11 in the first year I owned it...dont get so many now its garaged, one time a guy in a truck in front of me at the lights got out and came back to ask if it was for sale....as I was saying no the lights turned green :brickwall:

A guy in a porsche cayenne pulled up alongside me the other week and asked me if the barracuda was for sale...."nope" I said...

his next question was "what is it?" ...duh  maybe I should have said "yeah £50k"

b5blue

I try to take into account my car is kinda ruff, just ruff enough where you can see slapping some bondo on it a painting it and having a not to bad car. What they fail to know is there is a freshly re built 440 with a six pack sitting on top of completely re built suspension front and back and although the floor boards need welding in the sub-frames are solid as a rock, they don't see 80% of the cars value. I want a NOT FOR SALE bumper sticker!

Would you consider a magnet?  They come off easier!   :icon_smile_big:

Seriously, though...  A youngster/friend of a neighbor kid was walking by one day when I lived in Colorado Springs.  He asked how much for my 69 Judge, #s matching.  I said I don't know, but quite a bit more than what I paid for it.  "How much was that?"   Fourteen, I told him.  "hundred?"   No, thousand.  "Oh, wow."

Some people just aren't tuned in to the market, but love the old muscle cars.  But, I don't get the low-ballers who expect you to hand over the keys when they ask, as if they're doing you a favor. :smilielol:

Here in Nebraska a guy stopped to see if I was home a couple of weeks ago and mentioned the car.  Since I was gone, my wife said, "Who wants to know?"  Turns out she works with the guy's wife but hadn't met him yet.  I'd trust him with the keys to the house but she didn't know.  Glad she's lookin' out for me! :2thumbs:

Not quite on topic, but last year I drove my '69 to the funeral home where we were having my mom's viewing (she helped me buy it), and some guy stopped in and tried to buy it.
