My buddy owned that car about five years ago. Bought if from Hodge out of Inman SC. Supposedly Hodge bought if from the original family and sold it to my buddy. My buddy wanted a Hemi car so sold the car back to Hodge. That is a very nice car for sure. The light Yellow, tan top and tan interior is a unique combo. I remember the factory markings on the axle were crystal clear. The car did not have undercoating as well and the underside is very nice.

OMG...that charger is like looking at a Playboy for the first time in a kids life, so sexy. I want it.
Hey, you can hate the game but don't hate the player.

Too late, it's going to Holland.

Lord Warlock

Hope the new owner enjoys it and keeps it mint.

A side question, I noticed the 383 engine is blue, my 440 powered RTSE with same colors Is orange, was that color based on the engine size? Mine had the original motor when I got it, and it was orange, its replacement was orange, when was a 383 colored blue? the only 383 I had any experience with was orange also.  it spent a year in my engine bay before I killed it too, seemed like my charger didn't mind driving around town much, but didn't do too many long trips with me.  I parked it and stored it soon after swapping in the current 440.
69 RT/SE Y3 cream yellow w/tan vinyl top and black r/t stripe. non matching 440/375, 3:23, Column shift auto w/buddy seat, tan interior, am/fm w/fr to back fade, Now wears 17" magnum 500 rims and Nitto tires. Fresh repaint, new interior, new wheels and tires.

My 383 is also blue... factory matching numbers SE car. Perhaps build date is a factor (8-30-68), engine code from the fender tag (E63), or the assembly plant (G-St. Louis)?

If I understand correctly, the 383 Magnum engines in 1969 would be painted orange, but the Charger's 383 didn't get the "Magnum" designation until 1970. As such, the engine was turquois even if it was a 4 barrel.

Think he was born the same day as me.. and have family living near his home town..but no relation....also know it was directed at JJ78.

My build date is 904, so we weren't far off as far as dates go.  mine is a 440 and that may explain the color difference.  The 383 I had once upon a time, could have been repainted, it had been gone through and was pretty potent for a 383.

yeah  :yesnod:
ive been a bit confused with this ,  think it was only the 335 horse  383 4 barrel  that was painted orange & only found in a roadrunner & a superbee  , until 1970 model year .

the 330 horse 383 4 barrel was turquoise  :yesnod: :shruggy: :popcrn:

I await to be corrected on any of this   :popcrn:

Correct me if I'm wrong. The 69 could have a magnum, but a 383 four barrel with a/c was a 330 horse.if it didn't have air it could be orange.
68 Charger R/t white with black v/t and red tailstripe. 440 4 speed ,black interior
68 383 auto with a/c and power windows. Now 440 4 speed jj1 gold black interior .
My Charger is a hybrid car, it burns gas and rubber............

My 1968 Charger brochure shows only a 330 hp 383 engine. Anyone got a 69 Charger brochure to confirm?

charge69

My 1969 brochure shows a 2bbl. 383 with 290hp and a 4bbl. 383 with 330hp.

This is one of those things that doesn't turn up in the brochure.  I'll dig but I have it somewhere, you have to go through product letters or the parts book or something.

I'll second that. - My 69 383 HP was/is turquoise.  Factory Holly, hp manifolds, 330 hp.  It's the same as the 2bbl cam 383.  No one likes to point that out - shows that the 335 hp engine was underrated.  I've looked for some sort of engine paint documentation for years, no luck so far.
Mopar forever!

According to the "E" Series (1969) Sales Code Manual, 383-4 / 4-speed equipped Chargers were supposed to receive the same 383-4 engine assembly as 'Runners and 'Bees (2946925, 335horse).  Those engines would have been painted orange, but the 383-4/330horse variants were turquoise.

Among others, Doug H. and Dan P. have been studying this topic for a while -- and there are a couple of threads on the subject.  Here's one with a bit more info:

I also have the hp manifolds.

Well, I think that explains it then.  I must have picked up a 383 magnum motor out of the junkyard back in 82 when I lost the original 440 due to oil pump failure. I was surprised when I took the oil pan off and found aftermarket rods and pistons in it.  Thought it was a 440 until I got the distributor in and it didn't fit.  That motor ran as good as the original 440 did up to about 115mph, the 440 kept going, the 383 tended to peter out about then. At least the stock powerband did.
