Noticed a creaking sound yesterday on the front passenger's side of my Duster. Only at slower speeds when you go over bumps or whatever. Poked my head by the wheelwell and got my friend to lean down on the front of the car and it sounds like it's coming from the shock. Any ideas?

It's the shock.

Probably the rubber bushings in and around the area is my guess.

I guess the question is?  Is it a metal sound or a rubber creaking sound?
Life isn't Father Knows Best anymore, it's a kick in the face on a saturday night with a steel toed grip kodiak work boot and a trip to the hospital all bloodied and bashed.....for reconstructive surgery. But, what doesn't kill us, makes us stronger, right?

If the bushings get bad enuf in any of those parts, they can have metal to metal contact.

Is there a risk of anything breaking while I'm driving?

Control arm bushing....jeeeeeez  I hate that sound when it happens

E-Z to check shock first, undo top nut and make sure it's not just a bushing.

tricky lugnuts

I'd say there's always a risk of something breaking even with new bushings!

Not Dodge related - but my first car was a 1972 Chevelle... Driving one night - at speeds up to 100 mph - and parked it just fine later in the evening.

Next morning went to work, lightly hit the brakes on my 25 mph street just a couple houses down and the car starts bouncing back and forth, all the way into other lanes of traffic. The weld holding the lower control arm to the frame sheared and was just dangling there...

In one of the scariest drives of my life, I made it to my mechanic friend's shop and we sandblasted and rewelded it. I sold it to a knowing individual several months later and apparently it's been fine ever since...

Still, if it would have broke the night before I might well have died.

Things break. Bad things can happen. May as well try to prevent it as much as you can...  :Twocents:

Really do start checking things my friend!

Try tightening up the shock mounting nuts.  It doesn't take much in this area to make a real annoying squeak.  They may feel tight but you need to put a wrench on them to make sure.
