Some of you may have read my story. Cliff notes version: got back from Afghanistan, bought a Charger on Ebay, drove cross country to pick it up and found it to have a rusted out frame (pictures were misleading), reluctantly purchased and hoped to find a rust free shell to swap everything over. Well now I have come down on orders and dont think my career is gonna allow me to put in the wrench time necessary to restore a Charger like I have always wanted. Between moving every couple years and spending almost every other year in Iraq or Afghanistan it makes a restoration challenging to say the least. Anyways I now have to decide between selling this car as a parts car or trying to part it out myself. Here is the general run down:

1968 Charger 383-2bbl car. Automatic console shift car. Seems to be a triple green car, however without BS or Tag I have no way of knowing what color the vinyl top was. I have the 383 block and heads as well as the tranny. Interior is complete minus carpet. Car has all trim and chrome pieces. Grille is in great shape with only one crack along the bottom. Both bumpers are good as well. Now for the bad. Both rear frame rails are rusted away. Torsion bar crossmember is rusted away. Both front floor pans are rusted away, and the trunk is rusted away. Both fenders are shot. Hood is decent. Trunk lid is solid. Roof is decent. Doors are decent. All glass is in good condition. No title.

I know Ill never get back what I paid for it. I just want some opinions on what I should honestly try to get for it. Thanks.

have you decided on parting or selling as a whole?

RecklessYouth

I havent decided yet. Im wondering what a fair price would be if I sold it whole. I mean I have a good idea what its worth, I just am curious what the general market value is these days.

I think it would fetch more than 3K. I believe theres enough there to work with, I would not part it out, I think it deserves a full restoration.

The car would definately bring more parted out, but it is a hassle. Taking it apart, listing, shipping will be time consuming. Not to mention the first part (say 1/3) will go quick.... then it slows down part here part there... until finally your left with a bare rusty hulk you have to haul off.

I would probably be easier to sell whole but to be honest... It might bring 3K in some parts but around here you would be lucky to get a grand for it. Because who ever buys it is thinking the same thing... parting to make a little money and it has to be bought cheap to make it worth your while (taking it apart, listing, shipping, etc.).

Probably for you the best thing would be part it, or if you have a place to keep it, I would just hang on to it until you find another solid body and use this for parts.

Good luck not matter which route you take,
Jason
