Correct finish for lower shock plate & u-bolts '69 Chgr

Any one know the correct finish for the rear lower shock plates & u-bolts on a 69 Charger?

Chris,

U bolts are bare steel with the nuts I think being zinc phosphate.  The lower shock plate I painted semi gloss black.

I figured I would get mixed responses.....much like the color of the leaf springs....either black or nautral   

I had my springs painted black & the lower shock plates gray.....just took my springs apart & repainted gray.   had planned on painting my shock plates black this time.....
Asked Bill A. & he said natural for the plates (gray in my book )  I asked a few others & they said black.  Went on a few resto sites & found them either way (for '69 at least....)

Wound up going back to the gray for a little contrast under the car since mine is black anyway....crikies I hate this shit!!

Yup - Bare metal. If you glass bead blast and dip them 2-3 times fast in quick black, rinse it off, dry with compressed air and spray them down with some MP50 it looks like fresh metal again and wont flash rust in 3 minutes.....oops I let out a little secret.

The bar came powdercoated black....the brackets, u-bolts were yellow cad.....I camo'd them fairly well.....when the car's oin the ground you dont even see the bar

Chris-----I am looking at the brake drums on the rear of your car.  Are they 11 inch drums?  They look just like the ones I took off of a 69 New Yorker which I believe were 11 inch finned by I think 2-1/2 inch wide shoes.  Thats what I plan on putting on my 69 Charger.  Was that correct for a R/T in 69?  Just curious.  I am going to use them whether they are correct or not.  ONly thing I was able to use off the New Yorker was the backing plates.  Drums were worn out.  I got new Wagner drums while they were still made in USA.  Now all are from China.  Got all the hardware from Rock Auto.

If you got an R/T you automatically got the upgraded 11 brakes unless you got the disc brake option which gave you 10" rear drums.

Very nice work.  I had to go back up and take a second look at the pic after reading the posts since I missed the sway bar also.  Way to camo it in.

Yes those are my original 11" drums.  My car was originally a manual drum brake car  11x3 on the front & 11x2½ in the rear

Like Brian stated unless you got discs (10" rear drums) you got the upgraded 11" on the R/T

One thing I really like is the correct 7" u-bolts I got from A & M High Tech Auto (Bill Allphin)....look much better than the xtra long 8" ones I had on there from ESPO
