its driving me nuts, i ground my roof down to bare metal, then hit it with a wire wheel, then hit it with a rubber fingered disc, then cleaned and dried it, then primed it with etching primer and guess what. 2 months later i have little specs of rust. it is driving me nuts, i cant win

I would call AMD, and get a new roofskin! :Twocents:

With the quality of the replacement skins available now, there are no reason to go nuts over stuff like that anymore..

Could also be that the prepping and painting is done in the wrong envirement :scratchchin: humidity is a bitch !!!! To get a lasting result you need to do this a place you can control temp and humidity.
Since we only live once, and all this is not just a dressed rehearsal, but the real thing............ Well, enjoy it!!!!

Spraying a sealer coat after all the prep and primer may have stopped that as well.    Just guessing though

Etching primer won't keep metal from rusting for very long.  But 2 months is a very short time though.

A wire wheel and grinder will not get the small specs of rust, you've only got two options, sandblast it to get every spec of it off, or bite the bullet and replace the roof skin, I talked with a couple of restoration specialists I deal with at work and it's not hard, just time consuming, the biggest issue is shelling out $500.00 - $600.00 for a skin and hoping it arrives un-damaged......

www.rustbullet.com or zerorustusa.com       I have used both of these right over sandblasted rusty metal. after you apply this  next day seal with dp 74 epoxy ppg sealer.  then prime with k-36 primer dry sand block out all imperfections then seal again with dp-74 then paint.    you will not have a problem with rust anymore,I live on the rustyest rainiest place in usa and it works.

The coast gaurd here paints marine bouys with some super paint as we have a bouy base here I am going to try to find out what the paint shop uses  it must be super tough.   The whole trick is to stop moisture from getting to the rust crevices and those aformentioned products so just that. but you have to topcoat them. :icon_smile_wink:
