i"m back, what do you guys think of this hemi? http://www.elitemotorsportsmd.com/main.htm just navigate till you find it.  i spoke with the dealer, he said $75K is bottome line, but hoping cash talks.  22K original miles, never touched supposedly. i was wondering if the owners of rare cars feel comfortable driving them around.  i've seen it a couple of times, looks legit.  i'm transfering to the middle east for a year, and i think i'll miss out on some good deals if i don't fine one before i leave in july

Whats never touched mean?

I see a big fat MSD box on the fender.

Points go bad after 22,000 miles?

Is that an oil presure gauge under the dash?

Rims and tires don't look origional either.

Rolling_Thunder

Things I see as being incorrect to the best of my knowledge...

belt
wiper motor
water pump housing
plug wires
MSD ignition
engine wiring harness
alt looks remanned
voltage regulator
wiring at voltage reg and ballast
battery cables
master cylinder
exhaust looks incorrect
oil pressure gauge
jack incorrectly painted
gille painted incorrectly
tires....

A car with 100 miles might have done 400 passes at the strip. Mileage is not all it's cracked up to be sometimes.

It would be fun to own an original HEMI. But, again I reiterate, do not buy any car without going over it very carefully. Get all the history you can, along with all receipts available. Take someone knowledgeable with you. The car is not all original, so get the story.

And I would drive it daily without a second thought.  :yesnod:

QuoteVery untampered with car

it may not be cut up but it is far from a "Very untampered with car"

and with this overall discription . id go as far to say that its not the original HEMI motor . notice they do not say numbers matching .

Yes, all street production hemi-equipped auto cars got the tranny cooler.. Man, prices came down a lot !!! No wonder I can't get anything like what I want for my 68 hemi project..

But, it looks to be original and that's a start.......

Isn't that the same car that was on ebay not too long ago? It ended without the reserve being met IIRC. Rolling Thunder, I think you are right in everything on your list except the wiper motor. My car has the same one as that one and according to the SPDs, mine was built 4 days after that one.

i'm going back there today, grill the dealer.  He says that it's a friends of his, and he has a bunch of paper work for it.  It's actually this car that rekindled my interest in chargers about 3 months ago.  it's been for sale for at least 9 months now.  I'll crawl around see if its numbers matching at least.

If this is a legit 22K mi original, it is the buy of the century! I'd say something has happened that is very terrible in its past and miles are incorrect/unknown. If you can afford to take a chance without a professional inspection, do so at your own risk.

I drive my 68 HEMI Charger quite often and would rather drive it than have to maintain it in a museum...........

Steve

Hmmm    maybe one the Wiper motor Dennis - my 68 originally had a 2 speed but most of the 3 speeds i have seen are the later gold style...    maybe left over stock from 67 ?   That wiper motor looks like the one on my 66 Satty      :2thumbs:

i went back there today, and it's not the original hemi, but year correct.  Trans and rear are original supposedly.
This is what the dealer said:
-2 owner
-previous owner did mild resto
-doesn't know history of car, but can contact owner, as the car is on consignment
-body lines seem to match up, but im no expert
-bottom line is $75K, which i think is too much
-i would get pro to look at it if i thought he would come down more
-he says he'll let it sit till market gets better
