Now that my Charger is done I need to take care of business.

Tomorrow I'm getting an appointment to have a theft recovery device installed.

I need to also get appropriate insurance for the Charger. Figure I will start with Hagerty and see how much they want.

As for a Appraisal.....
Do classic car insurers need or require one?
Do I really need to have my Charger appraised?
How much is too much?
What credentials should the appraiser have to be legit?
What paperwork should I recieve from the appraiser when done?
Any sugestions on what documentation I should show the appraiser?
Any special prep I should do to the Charger?

decide what agreed value you think you need for the car ?
then call some classic company , if your value matches what they say most i have dealt with just insure you.
If your value is higher then what they think then you may have to get an appraisal to get them to bring the policy up .

What was I thinking.

sorry.

Nothing to be sorry about, I just figured with some of the cars on this board more than a few members would be in the know.

Guess I will have to find out the hard way and report back.

I understand the apprasial for sale vs insurance angle.
Not interested in any angle just doing the right thing the right way.

I'll let you guys know what I find out.

This is what I did to get my 69 Coronet R/T  insured with State Farm under the classic cars.   I got a copy of the lastest old car price guide, NADA values, and a couple of other on-line value estimates (I think one of them was called the gold book).  Made copies to give to them the ones that more or less came to the same range to prove a value, and that was all they needed plus for me to have them see it and photo it.  I used those values and what I felt was right and got it insured.  They said there was no need to pay for an appraisal since most often they go by the NADA and values like I gave them anyway. They were more standard than a single appraisers est. and so much cheaper.  Maybe this can be a start for ya.

Between my two cars I have $90k for agreed value with Hagerty.

All they wanted was pictures of the cars.  No appraisals.

My buddy (daytonakid) owns a very successful body & paint shop and he had nothing but praise for Hagerty when he deals with insurance companies.

I use Hagerty.

I called and they just asked me how much my car was worth/I wanted it insured for and they gave me a price. Just sent them a picture.

+1 more vote for Haggerty.  They have been very good to me.  They required pictures of all sides of the car and maybe one of the interior and engine, and then you tell them what you think the replacement value is.
