That's right if you really cared you WOULD go out of your way to fix a car. No cut up another one. :shruggy:

P.S. Nice sarcasm Troy!

Well its a car not a jigsaw puzzle so there has to be thought in it.  A guy with a welder and a hack saw and a press can do it or have a guy do it for a good price. It actually takes more'n a monkey to do the job
Hey...I think you missed your bus... :shortbus:

 :rotz:

::)

So instead of fixing 1 we let 2 cars rot because we have no money to fix one and no parts to put into a car that just needs some.

LMAO capt!

Three years ago I dragged home this little gem.
http://www.dodgecharger.com/forum/index.php/topic,12710.0.html

This car would have given JB's General a run for it's money in the rust department. The cost to restore this plane jane 318 versus it's resale cost doesn't make any sense. Spend 30k to restore a car that would be worth 5-6k. If you think that's OK I see a future congressman.
Don't get me wrong, I love 3rd gen Chargers. I felt bad cutting it up ,especially with only 80k miles on it. But all the savable parts were tagged and stored in my garage. Several parts went directly on to my 72. I wish we could but you have to face reality, ya can't save em all.

This R/T still exists today except since this picture was taken the front rails/ inner fenders were torched off. I'm sure I have a pic somewhere. The car now starts where the torsion bar crossmember should've been. No VIN and most everything else is paper thin. To fabricate or buy everything to make this a car again would take a lifetime. Then still there is no VIN. I understand your enthusiasm for Chargers but this car is one unreasonable project.

jaak

This is the most rediculous thread I ever read. I love mopars all my life, Im not one thats jumped on the bandwagon in the last few years... but dude are you serious? Its all about $$$$, plain and simple. If I buy a rusted out 318 car... I can part it, probably triple what I paid for and put that money into a worthy project. Or sink 50k into a full blown resto, and have a 318 car worth 20k? Thats just stupid and makes no since what-so-ever economically. You said you'd restore them and sell them at a loss, just to keep them from being cut up? Thats bullshit. If thats the case... start your resurrection mission, restore all rust buckets...then give them away for free. Evidently you have more money than you do since.

It's great to see a young gun have the passion that you do for our Chargers. Just don't let your passion cloud your vision of reality.

He's only 15, cut him a little slack. We've had other kids here that have typed first, thought later. I've been guilty of that on several occasions.

Yep!

Just realize you will NEVER see the money you put into a car. Well its possible if you ever sell it you can get some of your cash back, but its unlikely you will be getting it all or making a profit. For me the money im putting into my 3rd gen most guys will tell me to buy another more solid car...i want to fix this car because its mine and its my first mopar. I already have come to the reality that i will never see this money again, but i will enjoy the car when its done, enjoy it now even the way it is, and pretend to enjoy seeing it sit around when its getting fixed...in a way i will enjoy that but its not as fun as driving it  :2thumbs:

Yeah, it's true.
Some cars are just impossible to salvage.
Indeed, it always sucks to see such awesome machines rust in peace, but that's life.  It's great when they can be restored or salvaged, but sometimes it's better to let nature take it's course, and salvage the parts rather than the car.

But, I indeed have the same passion you do, however, you have to think: If it CAN be fixed, then FIX IT!  If not, let it go.
