Mr.Woolery

Hi folks,

My name is David and I love Chargers...especially the 3rd gen fuselage designs.  I currently have three other cars (one nearly complete project/race/show car, one exotic car, and one DD), but as of yet have never owned a piece of American V8 iron(Yeah, I know...OMG heresy)!  Although I've completely torn down and rebuilt/restored another car before, I think it's time I start with my first V8...and I think Mopar is the way to go.

Been looking at Chargers for awhile and have been wanting to get a '71-'73 Charger project car into my garage for some time.  Been lurking for a bit here but finally decided to start posting up as a registered member as a sort of "first step" to actually taking the plunge and buying a car.

I'm located in Southern California (Los Angeles area) and as of yet have not found an example in the right condition and at the right price...but I'm working on it.  I like the Rallye edition, though I know this would be a pipe dream for me (simply couldn't afford one).  As a result, I'm not particularly interested in the car I end up with being numbers matching or have rare options, as I plan to personalize it and mix up some features from the various models & years to get the right combination that's right for me.    This is what I'd like to eventually build:

-'71-72 body (I like the smaller rear quarter windows) though I do have some cool ideas for a '73 body.
-383 engine w/manual tranny
-'72 hideaway lights
-Rallye doors (though this is primarily a pipe dream since I don't think Rallye doors are even available).

Anyway...Just posting to say "hi" and let you know I'm here.  Hopefully I won't ask too many stupid questions trying to learn everything I need to know to get started and to stay on the right path in restoring my Charger once I get it.  Looking forward to adding a Charger to my car 'family'...and I use the term 'family' because I NEVER sell a car once I buy it.  I keep my cars forever and slowly make them better.

Newbies who own project cars are required to post pictures of them in their introductory post.  :slap: Even if they're not Chargers.

welcome and glad you enjoy 3rd gens.. try your local craigslist.. in the plains of the U.S. the 3rd gen is very reasonable.  May want to address this as it could be cheaper to buy one here and ship it to you, rather than purchasing one in kommiefornia (oops? california) hehehehe j/k

take care and welcome again.

Life isn't Father Knows Best anymore, it's a kick in the face on a saturday night with a steel toed grip kodiak work boot and a trip to the hospital all bloodied and bashed.....for reconstructive surgery. But, what doesn't kill us, makes us stronger, right?

What if they do both?

Welcome, David. You definitely picked the right place to start asking questions. There is an abundance of knowledge here with these guys. They're even teaching this old dog some new tricks.  :icon_smile_cool:

Mr.Woolery

Thank you for the warm welcome, everyone!

So at this time I may have a possible find...nothing special, a '73 for less than $2k.  It's not a '71-72, but I think I can make this one look nice, and the price seems decent for a 318 running one owner car.  I'll have more details later this week if things pan out.
