I have a '68 Dodge Charger I am restoring. I need an eng & tranny. I found an old 75 Dodge truck with a 440 motor in it with a 727 trans. Will that fit right in??
Thanks for the help!
I have seen evil! I have seen horror!
I have seen the unholy maggots which feast in the dark recesses of the human soul!
I have seen all this. But until today, I have never seen such a pain in the ars car like this 68 Charger!

To answer your question, yes, it will fit.  However you will want to rebuild it to perform at a level that will do your '68 the justice that it deserves.   ;D  Bob

You will need a different water pump housing, motor mounts, and oil pan.     That should be it.

P.S. If you get that engine, don't throw away that stuff. There are people out there with a car engine and want to put it in their truck.  :Twocents:
If it ain't broke, fix it 'till it is.

:iagree:   Yup, that's what I had to replace!

Some guys prefer the truck engine blocks because they are heavier built in some spots than the earlier 440 blocks. :scratchchin: :scratchchin:

just wondering what u payed for that drivetrain i had an oppurtunity to pick up a 440 and 727 for around 600 bucks a few months ago. didnt know if it was worth it, had planned on rebuilding the both but they had a lot of miles
hold my beer, this is gonna be fun

If your '68 is a big block car all ready the 440 will bolt in.  If it was a small block car you will need big block engine mounts.  If you need mounts check with Schumacher Creative Services.  www.engine-swaps.com
As for the trans, a truck 727 is different that a car 727.  The output shaft and housing will be different.  I believe the truck trans are shorter, and will not bolt to the trans cross member.

Don't worry though.  Car 727's can be had for cheap.

I have done this many times.  #1 The water pumps are not a issue if you use the truck Radiator. You Have to change Oil Pans, Oil pick up tube,Motor mounts AND a longer 727.  That is it.....PERIOD.  :2thumbs:
