Guys what will it take to put a 1 piece trunk floor in this car?  Is it possible to do with the quarter panels on?  And the trunk floor extensions, how do they attach?  Am I SOL if my car is already painted?  Do the weld to the inside of the quarters?

Thanks.

A one piece trunk floor will not fit with the quarters on.  You'll have to go two piece.

Actually a one piece trunkfloor will go in with the 1/4's on-I have done it no problem. With a painted car,you will have some repainting to do however. It can be done by removing the rear valance and trunklock support,or by removing just the tailpanel .The tailpanel on a Charger is easy to remove. The trunkfloor welds to the rear valance anyway,so removing it is a matter of just drilling the end spotwelds and a few from the rear lower crossmember. All these welds are hidden by the bumper once done.
If you take off the rear valance first and the trunk lock center support and bumper reinforcements, there is enough room to slip the new trunkfloor in through the mail slot between the taillight panel and the lower crossmember/rails

If you don't want to take out you're Tail panel etc. you could cut the one piece trunk floor in half , set the 2 pieces in the trunk, weld the back together and then fit it up nice , then weld it in.

You may ask: Why would I do that instead of just buying a 2 piece floor for cheaper.....Well the main reason is that you can have a nice butt weld seam instead of the crappy lap seam, and the 2 piece floors don't fit together very well.....by the time you weld the 1 piece back together the weld seam will be basically nondetectable if you do it right.

And also by doing it this way the only repainting to the exterior of the car needed will be the rear valance area behind the bumper....If you're trunk extentions are indeed good.

Trunk extensions are non existent!  Unfortunately.  I'm afraid to hear what you guys will have to say about that.

Yeah, you will need to paint the 1/4 panels then too. The trunk ext. panels weld to the bottom and the wheel lip of the 1/4 panel.

Does anyone know of a thread that shows pictures of this job being done?

Yes sit back and watch the show.  Is there anything else that I could be installing while I'm in there?  My goal of course is to make it look right this time and be nice enough to paint the underside.  Years ago we installed in outer wheel tubs and quarters, I sure things just are not right.

Check out my website at www.69hemi.com and click on the green Hemi Charger and it is under the sheetmetal section.  I used the two piece floor as that was all that was available at the time but sliced it and butt welded it so you could not tell.  It also shows how to do the extensions also.

Let me know if you have any questins

Hi,I've been reading this thread and I have to say thanks.I was just ob the 69hemi site, and it just what the doctor ordered.I'm just getting started with my 69 charger,my problem is I didn't start the restoration. So now I have to figure out what the previous two owners did. There was no rear valence,a home rear cross member and a whole lot of what the @&% did they do here.It is good they put a new trunk floor(witch I may have to cut back out) and new 1/4's (I have to finish installing). Here's a link to my charger page if you want to take a look I'll be posting more picture's soon.http://www.cardomain.com/ride/3238088

I too have read the 69hemi site (many times).  If nothing else it gives me a lot of clue on how to restore my 69 Charger.  Excellent site!!!  For your trunk floor, If you already have a two piece then try the butt weld method, you can't be worse off than you are now. If it's a show car then you may need to go one piece ( or find someone who is a real expert at butt welding sheet metal and pay them the money to come do your job.  Where there's a will (and the bucks) there's a way.

Ya,I'm going to reweld alot of the weld that were done.Because thay were too cold or just wrong. The trunk floor is....well it's not top of the line, but I'll work with it.I would like to take it to some shows when it's done, but it will be a driver.I 've found this site to be one of the most helpful site I've found yet.I'll be justing my page up dated.
