Here's my former project that didn't get quite done before trading it...  of course, I'm not ripping... It's a beautiful car.. I would not have filled in the rear valance seam though at the caps...

Dan, my former car is LL1 Dark Turquoise Metallic, albeit, it doesn't really look dark to me.. It was absolutely stunning I have to say...

As of now, the new owner hasn't done a thing to the car.. His words, not mine.............

For $245,000.00 I am quitting my job and starting a restoration shop. I thought I was over the top at the number I am at and can't see how or where to spend that kind of money. Albeit, a nice car though.

There was a 68 Charger R/T (440) at a big show a couple years ago with loads of incorrect parts on it. The owners were really nice but were disappointed that they didn't win any awards. One of the reasons they were upset was because they had just spent $200k on the restoration. Of course, they were in a big city on the coast too so labor rates are ridiculous compared to here in the midwest.

I believe Danny was quoted about $140k to restore his 500 from one of the big name shops.

A few years ago it really only made sense to do a full-bore restoration on an original Hemi car (possibly a Daytona or other low production model) but now it seems that you can't even come out ahead that way. At that time there were Hemi Charger clones selling for the price this one bid to...

Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.

I just received a labor only quote for restoring my triple black car from a local Mopar hobbyist that has been doing restorations in a shop he built about ten years ago.  It's a clean shop with a modern paint booth, and the work that I have seen so far seems very nice.  A 1970 Charger R/T that he restored placed 1st in the B-Body Dodge Original class at the 2004 Mopar Nationals, so he does seem quite capable...

Adding the labor only estimate to estimates for materials, NOS & Repro parts, drivetrain rebuilding, etc... plus a 15% reserve, yields a total estimate of about $70K.  No way I could spend $140K... not sure I can afford $70K!

Off topic, but how do these shops generally want payment? In full or do you feed them cash along the way?

I would NEVER pay in full upfront...  Most of the shops that I have dealt with want 15% to 20% upfront to cover body shop materials & initial labor, then progress payments in $2K-$3K increments...  For both sides protection, ALL agreements should be in writing...

Nice looking ride for sure. As far as price to a resto is concerned it just does not make sense to do a restoration on my car. Troy is close to what I was quoted from a shop to do my 500. And to think I could get half of that out of the car once it was done just does not make sense to me. So for now mine will remain as it is and will continue to be driven and enjoyed.

To think I was getting ready to compliment the attention to detail.  (booster & MC painted black together, rad. support painted, etc.)  Doesn't sound like I'd fit in over @ 'parts.

Hmm... that's a crap load of money.  Seems like there are a lot of them out in the Country.

I am approaching the tail end of my project and thought I needed to get my head examined. My wife sure thinks so! I have cut no corners to speak of and will be approaching the $100,000 mark and I am in the car business and probably got a better deal most. I did have to circle around on my body work as the car sat for a while and needed to be reworked correctly so I flushed a pile down the toilet because of that. It is turning out superb, however, I am not going to win any trophy's for a 1000 point car because it is not concours in places it needs to be. Point being. For $245,000.00 this car should be on the front cover of every Mopar magazine and we all would bow before it as the Holy Grale of Chargers, but wow. It is very easy to get caught up into spending way more money than one would want to acheive perfection and get caught into our sickness for the passion of a true icon.
