Just wondering.  Are hood hinges date coded?  If so, where is it and how do I decode it?  Thanks

Usually they have a "stamping" number on them. What do you see on yours?

I don't have a photo here with me but they are on the Superbird that I am restoring.  We need to replace the hinges and I didn't want to put something on it if it wasn't "correct", you know.  I have a few nice and tight sets from a '69 Charger, '69 GTX, and a '69 Coronet.  All show different markings.  I will post pictures of the numbers tomorrow.

Cool. I don't have any 70 B-bodies here at the moment to see if there is any difference between a 69 and a 70. Check the Bird's with your 69 stuff if you have a chance....just curious. I need to get my Bird home!

The hinges are the same but the springs are different.

These hinges were removed from a '69 GTX.  The first two pictures of numbers were from the driver side hinge and the fourth and fifth pictures are numbers of the passenger side hinge.

The hinge springs on the left are from a '69 GTX w/o air induction.  The springs on the right are from a '70 Superbird.  The GTX springs measure 6 inches and the Superbird springs measure 4.5 inches.

I lot of the "EM" letters and numbers after them appear all over Mopar sheet metal. They are stamping numbers. You will find those on fenders, valances, frame rails....everywhere. The numbers after those could very well be date codes. I have seen date codes on some fenders and front and rear valances as well. I will have to have a closer look on some of my B-Bodies and see if there is a pattern forming on the numbers. The fact that you care about this and want to know is a good thing and I will do some more research.

A look in the '70 parts book shows two springs for the "R" series cars. One has "21 3/4 coils for air grabber"-The other has "25 1/4 coils".
The '69 book shows only one for the "R" series 21 3/4 coils.
They are also color coded.
How are you supposed to go with a color code after the car is painted?

I  believe that the color coding for them that is refered to in the parts book is what was used to easily identify them when they were sitting on  shelf, or in a parts bin. So one would not have to actually count how many coils they had.
