I just got orders to Mississippi, so I will need to transport my 72 Charger and the 440 I am slowly building. What is the best way to "pack" it for the 1900 mile U-haul trip in July. do I get a plastic "crate" like many new crate motors come in, where would I get one? See if the welding shop at the local high school would build me steal frame to connect to the motor mount (and maybe the transmission bolt holes)?

How much time do you have? You could always just order or build a short engine stand and modify it as needed.

On a few occasions before I've gone to a shipping company and asked for a used roll of plastic wrap to encase an engine while moving it from point A to point B. Don't leave it wrapped in plastic very long though or with will trap moisture instead of keeping it out. Anyway, that's what I would do: Mount it to a short stand and then seal it up it in plastic packing wrap.

Make sure it does not slide around it could be bad!

I'd set it in the car, just put it in place.  That's the best way I think.
