That is a new twist but he claims he has proof so who am I to argue.  Mopar did stranger things.

The car was bought new by Tom Pridmore in Melbourne Florida without a wing.   It was removed by the dealer.   We have a detailed letter from him that talks about what happened.

The car sat on the lot for about 6 months, and during this time, somehow the wing was damaged and removed by the dealer.   Quarters were patched.   Tom Pridmore was a travelling salesman who had previously made a deal at this dealership on a C-body.  Well, while he was waiting there to pick it up on the appointed day, the car salesman pointed at the Bird and said, "Too bad you're getting too old to handle a car like that."    Tom took the bait and off they went.  After a test drive in the Bird, he wound up buying it.

Pridmore joined DSAC in 1978 and wrote in wondering where to buy a wing.   He located and reinstalled the wing in 1978 and drove the car up to Milwaukee from Florida for the national meet.    That is where this photo was taken.    At some point the car was sold off, and here it is now.

I don't have any real evidence or a VIN, but there was also a B5 Blue Superbird sold at Miller CPD in Canton IL without the wing. This car was driven buy the Chrysler "Zone Rep" for six months then turned over to the Miller's to sell as on their lot in summer of 1970. The customer that finally purchased the car did not like the wing on the back, So the dealership had it's own bodyshop in those days, they unbolted the wing, filled the holes and painted the tops of the quarters. They simply put the removed the unbolted wing parts in the trunk, and off they went with the car.
My friend who worked there at at the time saw the car frequently around town (Canton is pretty small) and recalled it looked like a big needle going down the road!
My friend was son of the owner, Doug S has probably heard this story as well.

Birds with their wings clipped actually look pretty cool. :icon_smile_big: :icon_smile_big:
