does the Floating caliper system have some anti rattle system ? I can't find any ilustration about them on the floating caliper system ( beside the rubber bushings ), Haynes, FSM or Parts Catalog. I'm getting rattling on front coming from brakes. I thought simply it could be slider pins worn where pads are making some play around... but, something else ?

with a helper and brake assembled, take a prybar and place between the rotor hub and the brake pad. lever the bar so you are now pushing the pad away from the rotor hub.

while tension is on the prybar, get a helper to step on the brakes as hard as he can

hold the prybar and hammer down the upper ears on the brake pads.

that will get rid of the rattle sound if it is the pads making the noise.

Nacho-RT74

I don't think I got completelly what you said...

maybe whay you said is to close a little bit the "eyes" of the pads where pins goes through ?

but for a while I found this graphic:

what BTW is not on any of the books/manuals I have. Nor the "positioner" or "antirattle spring"

My calipers did not have any positioners on it when I took them off. So I did not put any positioners back on.  :shruggy:

I've had cars with the positioners and others with a more effective anti-rattle device. It resembles a bent spring-wire and clips onto the pins at the ends. I know I don't have any pics, sorry Nacho.

I think the positioners are a 70-71 thing. Spring clips started in 72 or 73.

Nacho-RT74

well really dunno what would it be the positioner function :shruggy: any of this is not definitelly a stock asembly

aftermarket brake pads from the autoparts stores come with the anti-rattle spring snacho.

and your brakes, technically, are the pin-type calipers... sliding/floating calipers came about towards the end of 74 and 75 and later model year b bodies.

this is a modification.. the anti-rattle springs come with the remanufactured and new brake calipers.  not the brake pads themselves.

well I know is not stock... dunno if they are really available down here, never have seen them.

The fact is I'M TIRED of the rattling and clinks clunks which dissapears when press brakes. makes my car sounds like JUNK, and trust me with all teh irregular streets in Caracas, sounds like somebody "hang the bell to the cat"

will try new pins that fit tight in to pads for a while I get the anti rattle system

THANKS for the positioner set, but wow, little bit expensive for something dunno is really needed :shruggy: what does make really ?

The positioners are supposed to keep the assembly snug so as not to rattle.

I stand corrected on the years also. I just looked under my 73,000 mile 73 Challenger today and there were the positioners.

These used to come with a hardware kit, but I'm not sure these days. Let me look at Advanceauto.com. Sometimes they have pictures of the parts.

Nope, nothing there, sorry Nacho. Will keep looking.......

Nacho-RT74

yeah I know "mopartsdealer"  seller, I have got several stuff from him... were not EASY deals but got the job done. Good prices though

and second link... wow... two sets of those makes expensive than get the billrolikenterprises.com positioners set and rockauto spring set separatelly. Pins are not a problem, since they are available locally in around $1.5 each

search will keep going  :scope:  ;D

How does mount the antirattle spring?

something on my assembly simply doesn't look right

I did fit the spring like diagram shows ( even diagram shows a diff shape spring ) assuming brake pad fits directly with Caliper and spring ends goes over the pad, hold by the pins...

Does look is on this way, but I can't think the spring will keep hold out by the pins depressions riding on streets  :shruggy:... and already tested when spring is not on that position, simply fallen, then there is not action over the pad.

In the pic above, the spring wire needs to be raised higher so the the loop of the wire is positioned above the slider pin.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

Nacho-RT74

mmmmm, that's a buddy's assembly... maybe because my pads and rotor are in better conditions, but the pins are more deeper into the caliper... not that outer, but will try. thanks John!!!!
