Interesting.... the narrative under the pic talks about the 440 and Hurst 4 speed, although that combo wasn't available after '72.....

I don't have a transmission breakdown but there were about 2366 Chargers with 440's in 73 and 1056 in 74.  The four speed was available for them.

Better recheck those numbers... all the production figures I've seen for U code 440 cars in 73 & 74 are all automatics. A family friend of mine who ordered a 74 SE new got the P code 400, because he wanted the 4 speed and couldn't get it with a 440. In all the Mopar shows I've been to, I have yet to see one factory equipped.

Like I said, I don't have any trans breakdowns for it.  Factory literature (what I have) absolutely shows it as available but we all know how reliable that is.  Where are all the 3rd gen numbers freaks when we need them?

TeeWJay426

Absolutely.... that's why I pointed it out in that particular ad, when to my knowledge, you couldn't actually order one that way. Paging Nacho!

Good call, TeeW!

The Dealership Data book over on the Hamtramck Historical website says this about the 4-speed option:
"Availability: Optional at extra cost on Charger S.E., Charger hardtop and coupe when equipped with the 318-V8, optional 340 or 400 4-barrel. NA with all other engines. Requires bucket seats."

Ghoste

Thats a source I never even thought to check, thanks.  :2thumbs:

This is correct -- no 440 4 speeds after 72, and only 165 in 72.

And I have one!  lol.........

sorry, I have to be disagree with that... no 440 4 speeds JUST ON 74 but yes on 72/73

in fact you still could get some very rare with forged cranks just on 4 speeds engines including on 400s ( some earliers productions ). That is at least what I have known
Venezuelan RT 74 400 4bbl, 727, 8.75 3.23 open. Now stroked with 440 crank and 3.55 SG. Here is the History and how is actually: http://www.dodgecharger.com/forum/index.php/topic,7603.0/all.html

Nacho, pretty sure that is incorrect on 73 4 speed 440s. Never seen one, and don't think they offered.

You could get a 400 4 speed in 73, but very rare.

Nacho-RT74

ok just checked the hamtramck website with all the specs and books, and is true 73s weren't 440s with manual tranny. Maybe the ones I saw on ebay were changed or I got confused... sorry.

but they were available on 72s FOR SURE ( except on sixpacks )
