Wasn't there talk about it being behind the the windshield by the roof line too or was that another number?

From what I read, that was the 3rd gen...

A buddy of mine had a Challenger , and he thought it was on his cowl somewhere, that's why I thought I'd ask.

I found some more areas on 3rd gens the other day well on mine but they are only have of the vin but still they are there  :yesnod:  rear lower quarter panel (inside) both sides, left rear upper area of the fender wall  :Twocents:

hemi-hampton

I remember hand sanding a Black Pontiac firebird Trans Am firwall & that thing must of had 4 or 5 VIN #'s stamped in just the firewall. I think gradually on the newer & more popular cars they gradually increased the amount & locations of Hidden VIN #'s.

Ok now let's say, hypothetically, that your car had to have all new metal put around the trunk area/seal and you couldn't retain the #'s on the back, is there a "stamp" tool that could replicate the #'s on the new metal for originality?

you can but sheet metal number & letter punches/dies  :yesnod:

Really? Interesting.. I wasn't sure if the 'font' would match with a generic stamp

doubt if  the numbers would look exactly like the the originals , could always try & look at a few different makes .  would have to pratice to get them in line though :yesnod:

jerry

if you are  concerned about originality you should have started with a nice rust free car to start with.you didn't say why you would have to replace this part but i would guess its rust and it would have to be pretty bad to destroy that lip.if you have to replace the complete quarter don't worry about a thing. #1 its not original # 2 i think its illegal to re stamp a body vin. #3 did i say its not original. at this point it only needs a vin on dash so you can register it. :popcrn:

Ok cool.. Advice taken  and yes, the back end of the car was a mess. Too late to turn back now.

the VIN tag is the only legal VIN. the rest are just extras.

if you want to make the best stamping, find some number punches that best fit the font. then buy enough to make up the VIN. tack weld them all together and press it in.

Really?  Try telling that to the police if you get caught running a chop shop.
