Anyone know how much power an iron R3 block can handle? How about aluminum?

Also, what is the difference or advantages of having a 48* as opposed to 59*?

Thanks in advance

not sure on the power capabilty of the R3 but is must be 600 +
the 48 * block straightens the odd pusrod to lifter angle that the LA blocks have for better valve train stability

The R3 is a excellent Block with very large caps. I just completed and delivered a 434 inch R3 motor with the W9 cylinder heads. You will need to do some things if you use the 9.560 deck height block. The water inlet holes will need to be ground open where the water pump goes. You will also need to run a roller cam due to it taking a special cam core for the 48 degree lifter angle. If you do not use a w2 style head which oils the rockers through the heads you will need to drill each lifter bore down into the lifter oil galley about 3/4 of a inch with a .060 to .080 drill bit. The lifter valley area needs to be drilled for oil return holes also. It does require some more attention than other blocks, but it is every bit as strong as any of the Dart blocks I have used in Chevys
