Why are some of the bumper guards on 73 and 74 Chargers chrome with rubber and some all rubber?

Ghoste

Are you sure you're seeing them all rubber?  In 73 they had a small rubber section but in 74 they went to a much larger rubber section.  Could this be what you are seeing?

BROCK

Not sure what GN & I have seen in pics; but, yeah rubber bumpers without chrome bases seem to be prevalent.
I've wondered about this myself.

Chromed ones are DE LUXE OPTION on both years... regular guard ( standart equipment ) is the complete rubber assembly.

and yes, 74s are larger on both kind, complete rubber and chromed with larger rubber cushion. That is at least on rear... unsure about fronts. Never have noticed a diff size on fronts between 73 and 74.
