Ive got a set for a big block that are a wee bit nasty and I wanted to tweak them out. We have a bead blaster here in the shop. What I thought was to blast em clean,,paint em (flat black??) then just clean off the end of the fins with a sander or whatever. Might save me about $125 that I can blow elsewhere! Anybody ever do this?

Haven't had to do that, but I don't see why it wouldn't work.

I have done that a couple of times, I used the 3M blue fineline tape to mask off the fins and it worked great, I had someone tell me that you can use vaseline on the fins before you paint them and then just wipe it off after you paint them, I never tried it, sounded weird to me, I also found that the wrinkle paint worked better if you put it in a oven to cure, the heat makes it work better  :Twocents: good luck, definitely better to reuse than buy new. :2thumbs: :2thumbs: :2thumbs: :2thumbs:

Hi,

I wrinkled them with wrinkle paint from Advance, then took a long sander (plane) and 100 gritted the fins, since its just the tops that need to be bare it cleaned them off like new so now we have a NEW set of valve covers :)
