Would anyone happen to have a diagram on how to drop the steering column? Ive got a "Motor" '68-'74 repair manual but its pretty vague on how to drop the column. Ive done what the book says to do but it still will not drop down. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
--John

1 Take off plastic bezel below the column

2 remove the 4 bolts holding he column plate to the firewall (and the 2 holding the plate 2 the column. this isnt neccesary but sometimes makes it easier to get out around the pedals)

3 unhook any linkage ( if it has any)

4 drive the pin from the coupler at the sector ( if you plan to remove the column)

5 remove the nut that fastens the column ground wire ( many times this wire is missing)

6 loosen the 2 nuts from the studs that hold the column up

7 remove the long bolt about 8 inches ahead of the column stud closet to the passenger side

8 unplug the wireing

9 carefully remove the 2 already loosened nuts ( it can come down and hit you if you're not careful)

10 Take a pry bar or large screwdriver and slide the cuppler off of the sector ( this is sometimes easier on some cars than others)

Where does the ground wire go to? Mine was there but both ends were hooked to the column. I didnt know if it was supposed to be that way or not.

one end of the wire fastens to the column at one of the 4 5/16 bolts holding the mount to the column and then onto one of the mounting studs.
