Hi, the 426 hemi (street) was introduced 1964 I believe... In which car could you find it from factory 1964 and 1965? Second question in which car from that era could you order 426 wedge?

Thanks!

Not exactly sure about the HEMI, but 426 Max Wedges were avilable in 1963 Max Wedge Cars. The 413 Max Wedge was available in 1962.

The 426 Hemi was first introduced into regular production vehicles in 1966............ Earlier years saw limited production specialty cars for racing only.. The height of 426 hemi general public "for sale" models was probably 1968 with both the street versions in the Dodges and Plymouths and the race hemi offered in the Super Stock Hemi Dart and Barracuda.

Thanks! But suppose that you build a Hemi with crossram and stuff. Which car from 64 and 65 would be the most correct to put it in. I like the roof on 65 satellite and sport fury 64... I'm not so fond of the 65 coronet factory race cars (roof).

From http://racehemi.maxwedge.com/topics/hardtops.php:

Most of you know there were hardtop Race Hemi cars built but you almost never see any articles on these cars. The reason for that is there are only a handful of them still in existence today. Myself, I have only physically seen three-first hand. Two 1964 Plymouth Belvedere hardtops and one 1964 Dodge 440 hardtop. One Plymouth was an automatic and the other two were four speed cars. That raises the question as to just how many hardtop Race Hemis were actually built? Previously these production numbers were unavailable, but with the new Max Wedge and Race Hemi books from Darrell Davis the word is out. Below are the totals for Dodge and Plymouth from Darrell's book. To find out the details of each car regarding body color, interior trim and color plus basic options including transmission get yourself a copy of Darrell's books. It's interesting to note there were no Race Hemi hardtops built in 1965.

1964 Race Hemi Hardtop Production:

Dodge 440 Hardtop -

22 automatic transmission
13 manual transmission
----------------------------------
35 total production

Plymouth Belvedere Hardtop -

18 automatic transmission
17 manual transmission
----------------------------------
35 total production

That comes to just 70 of these cars being built. I have been asked if they made that many then why don't you ever see or hear about hardtop Race Hemis? My guess is that most of them ended up on the tracks of NASCAR and you know what happened to most of them. CRASH, BOOM BAMM!!

Just a guess ... "

Correct on the year and it cold be had with a 426 wedge but not the cross ram.  That was Max Wedge stuff and it was over when the Race Hemi was introduced in 1964.  The 426 wedge was available from 63 to 66 as far as I know.

You could get a 225 6 cylinder or 273, 318, 361, 383, or a 426 V8 in 65 Belvedere II.

Thanks guys!

I'm looking for a 69 RR or satellite but will also give 65 satellite/belvedere II and coronet a chance!

Thanks again from Sweden.
