question regarding rear light restoration

I pulled the rear rear lights from my 72 charger.  I am curious as to how one gets the light sockets out of the actual light assembly.
I need to get rust outta the sockets and generally clean them up.  I see no way of removing the sockets nor can I figure out how to clean the sockets while in the assembly.

Any thoughts?

Thank you.

eeehm... first. WELCOME!

in my experience and as far I know, the socket is a cup inside another cup, with the housing in the middle making like a sandwich. With all years aof dust and rust I think is allmost imposible remove it like originally was mounted. You can try ( I made it and couple of guys too, with success ) try to pry and bend the inner lips on housing and remove socket, then install in oposite way.

Hmmmm- sounds like I am going to lose more hair on this one.  Not good.
Thanks for the description of how this was put together.  I really appreciate it.
I will give it a go this weekend.

Just my  :Twocents: . I had the same question as you. I ended up lightly sandblasting the inside and outside of the sockets and covering the inside in a thin film of dielectric grease to prevent corrosion. I just sprayed clearcoat over the outside of the sockets to keep them from rusting again. Good luck!
