Oh...I don't think the "in the know" crowd knows about every car out there.....

Doug, they know about your car.

Trust me, if you find a super rare car behind a barn, chances are it's already been discovered. If it wasn't discovered by someone "in the know", the % numbers say it will filter through that community, well before it gets to mine.

There are still cars out there that the "in crowd" doesn't know about either. I know of a few cars that the "in crowd" doesn't know the wear abouts to, but that doesn't mean that they don't have an idea. They may have heard through the gravevine that years ago there was a particular car in a certain area.

That car just seems to give off the vibe that it has had something bad happen in its past.

And the people with the cash flow to just up and purchase something like that on a whim, are holding their $$$$ a little tighter in the last few weeks/months.

I am sure most of the Hemicars are known by the in-crowd but, certainly not all of them. No one from the in-crowd has ever contacted me about my car and very few people over the years have ever known it was in my garage.  When I am finished restoring it, I expect the word to get out as it will be shown a little bit.
I do have contacts that would probably be considered part of the in-crowd and highly doubt I would have to advertise it being for sale if I was of a mind to sell it. That ain't gonna happen for a while and maybe never by me. My heirs might have other plans!

I see KYB shocks.  If they cut corners there, where else did they cut corners?

:smilielol:  When i read the phrase  " in crowd " i thought of you . You seem to know a lot of people and have a lot of vin #'s ( known and unknown ) memorized . I'm not saying your a high dollar collector but, you got to be part of the network    :icon_smile_big:

If I'm a part of the network I'm like the step child. The one who knows the people who have all the toys, but doesn't have the ability to get them for myself. I do know where quite a few cars are that aren't "known" or on the radar, or that have been parked for decades. But that doesn't mean that there aren't many others that might know of the same cars too. I just know that I haven't told others where the cars I know of are.

Most of the "in the know" guys have their rides displayed in the buildings at Carlisle...I heard they have special decoder rings :icon_smile_wink:
Great comments guys. It is probably due to alot of the reasons listed.

Ah you mean like the CudaKen decoder rings.  ;)

I'll tell you another group of the "in crowd" are people who display their cars in  the special display tent out in Vegas. Take for instance 4 years ago I believe there were 11 of the factory HEMI E body convertibles in the tent at one time. Now that is an "in crowd" who definitely knows where some other cars are.

Chris is right, the big wallet crowd had an "in the know" network before there was ever an internet and it still exists today.

Oh...I don't think the "in the know" crowd knows about every car out there.....I wouldn't know who to contact in the "in the know" crowd if I were to sell any of mine.

Doug, well..... Just list it on Hemmings.com , the sellers will come to you... I listed my '68 and have had two calls already for "professional" selling services that guaranty they will sell my car for the amount I'm looking for.... Of course, they get paid regardless if my car "actually" sells.......

By the fact we own some of these high-end cars, doesn't that automatically include us as part of the "in the know" crowd?  :D

If you network with other owners of these high end cars, you most certainly are a part.

Or if you do work with an auction house, that makes you part of the "in crowd".  :poke:

"in crowd" or "poor crowd" does it really matter? Many people know of plenty of cars out there. There aren't too many that are really "unknown" to the entire hobby.

Ghoste

No, it means I know people who are the in crowd.  I am but a lowly servant.

yeah well join the crowd. I'm just an outsider looking in on many of the parties. I tend to be the one who only gets invited to take pictures, but then again that many times is VERY NICE.
