Getting ready to paint my charger black base clear, couple of questions

Just wondering if there is any thing I can spray my car out with first to make sure it looks perfectly straight. I'm using dp90 for my final sealer but it's not really a shinny black so it kind of hard to tell if the body on my charger is perfect. This is my first time painting a black car so I'm a little nervious. I heard of some painters using a gloss black single stage paint just to make sure it looks straight and then scuff that up and shoot the black base and then clear. Any helpfull tips...
I've filler primed the car several times and guide coated then boarded it and it looks pretty good, it's just real hard to see if there's any waves in it unless it's painted shinny black.

I just shoot on a mist of wax and grease remover. ....... By the way I wouldnt reccomend dp for final sealer , use a good urethane sealer .

My Charger is a hybrid car, it burns gas and rubber............

Never thought about shooting it on, I usually take a rag with some prep solvent on it and run it over the panels but it dries to quick to get good look at the panels. I use to wet sand my filler primer and that would also give me a good idea of how the panels looked but I stay away from water now as I dont want primer shrinkage. One good thing is it has a vinyl top so I wont have to mess with the roof.

We usually use this for a sealer chroma premere but I heard the dp 90 would work. I didnt really care for how the dp90 sprayed out, it didnt lay out very flat so I will stick with the primer I've used before.  Thanks for the tip on the sealer :icon_smile_wink:.

I like to do something like that in stages, like 3 stages. Bottom first, then interior, then outside. Trying to do to much at once can run into dry spray problems,bumping into wet paint, dirt, runs from trying to do to much at once, ect, ect. Just use a real wet rag of wax grease remover to see if staight, since all the body panels off, all you got is 1/4's anyways. LEON.

Try using a rag soaked with DuPont Prep Sol, it's one of the panel prep solvents that dries s..l..o..w..l..y.  Wet the panel down as evenly as possible, it should stay wet for at least a minute. It's the only thing I really like using Prep Sol for, otherwise I use DuPont Final Clean prior to paint.

I've used PPG DP before as a sealer. Read the PPG tech sheet, it will tell you how to mix it as a SEALER. It won't work properly this way unless it's reduced as a sealer, I've had great success using it.

Painting mine in a few weeks. Here's the formula from the custom paint guy I will have doing the spray work.
Using all top shelf PPGproducts. Just prior to topcoat, spray a coat of sealer, in your case it's DP 90, mixed as follows:
PRIMER 2 parts, Hardner 1 part, Reducer 1/2 part. Normally there is no reducer added however in this application as a sealer it makes the primer lay down nice and flat. :Twocents:

Im not saying that you cant get good results with dp as a sealer...Im simply saying that there are better options today.

Ten years ago I sealed everything with dp , but times and materials change.

I'll agree with the final wash/prep idea, goes on nice and wet and you'll know in a second if it isn't straight.   Have lots of good light available.
