so is anyone currently running or has run electric water pump in their muscle car? particularly small blocks...
if so who made it, how do/did you like it, how was the install and have/did you seen significant gains over mechanical in both performance as well as in cooling ability? i'm trying to eek out every little piece of HP i can and i've heard they can add (or give back really) as much as 25+ over their mechanical counterparts...are they worth the extra 200 bucks over a high-flow mechanical pump? what about the electric kits you can put on mechanical pumps from Mr. G and Moroso?
i'm trying to do as much research as i can...thanks alot all :2thumbs:

bueller, bueller?

I only have a remote one for my 70 Project.. .Meziere http://www.meziere.com/, sure is a pudy thing, the radiator I have is a Ron Davis Racing... I think that thing was $900.

SOrry I cannot be of more help.

25 HP. going thru a 1/2 inch v belt seams pretty high. I think it would burn up. At 748 watts per Hp. you would have a pretty big waterpump motor and alternator.

Being able to run the cooling system in the stagging lanes on a hot day would be slick.

i didn't even think about alternator drain...stupid me...  :brickwall:

so you gained 25 hp?

and other then that that post basically lost me

sorry...

IMO you need to understand driving the fan blades through the air take some HP too.....At least I would think so with my college expericence (still hate physics class to a point).  It is just not running the water pump itself, in one of our race cars we never ran a fan just the pump and an alternator (no fan)...... That was it.  RAN GREAT.... how much HP did we gain, Have no clue......  But on the track there was constant air movement as was only on ilde in the pit for a VERY short time.

That is where part of your gain will come is the blades not cutting through the air......  :shruggy:

years ago, before electric water pumps were so readily available. a buddy racing a 413 in an old dodge wagon used a 12 volt heater fan motor to turn a garden hose size "fluid transfer" pump to circulate water thru radiator...let it run while in the pits sometimes....also seen fan motors used to turn the standard water pump...whole idea was to eliminate fan from front of motor... :Twocents:

well as of right now, i'm already set on an electric fan regardless of pump type...but i just figured it would get me some more HP if i went w/ elec pump & fan instead of mech pump/elec fan...

thats the thing...its $296 for a moroso electric and $80 for a miloden mech...i think its game over right there :P...now its not really about cooling...(but if i go mech it will be high volume cuz 6k rpms can get toasty)...its about HP gains..but i think i'll settle for a elec fan and a mech pump...thanks guys :2thumbs:

Also, keep in mind, with the electric - if you're talking about use at the track, alternator drain doesn't have to matter.  As long as you've got enough battery to make it down the quarter, just disconnect the alt field wire or regulator to disengage the alternator - now it's a nothing but a free pulley :)  Just gotta watch your battery charge that way.  Don't forget to hook it back up! :P
