Thoughts on mods......

just bought a 72 440 4 speed Rallye. In pretty good shape, but about an 80% restoration.  Nice seats, no dash workee, no lights other than headlights workee, tranny/motor good except for leaky valve covers. New brakes all around.  Needs headliner. Decent paint, good wheels.  Looks good, and drives good, needs details.

I LOVE driving this car, want to do it more. Got a pretty good deal on it ($15k) and have about $10k to drop on it.

I want to:

1. Up the front torsions to 1.00 at least.  Maybe a bit more (I race sports cars, used to it).
2. Firm feel bushings and comp rear leafs.
3. Fix that horrible (24:1 manual) steering. New tie rods, and then either (a) manual 20:1 or maybe...16:1 or (b) Firm Feel extra firm rack and fast idler and pittman arms. Any recommendations?
4. I may up the brakes all around.
5. Ally radiator.  Mopar add on gauges.  Have dash redone, and replace the new but poorly installed carpet plus that DynaMatt stuff.

Too much mods? Any thoughts/comments etc?  Buddy has a lift so the suspension stuff should be pretty straightforward.

My goal is a reliable driver that I can RARELY take the track (road course).  I know, know, may be tough.  We'll see.

Let me know what you think.

Nope, I don't think those are to much in the way of mods.  Your not changing a lot and what you are changing are easy to put back if needed.  The suspension pieces sound good, should help the handling a lot.   How big are you thinking on the brakes???

I was at a car show this weekend and there was an 72 440 4spd car there that the guy bought brand new.  He had about 40 grand in it's restoration.  He was telling me the 72 440 4spd car was really really rare.  I mean like 11 or something like that with his options.  Good Luck with it.
This car was sold many years ago to somebody in Wisconsin. I now am retired and living in Florida.

165 4 speed, 440 72 Rallyes built apparently.  I suspect one of 11 with particular options is probably spot on.

All of the 4 speed/440s had the Dana 60 -- mine does as well. Still there.

Great car. Buddy just bought a 72 Q Code Ford Torino 351C Cobra Jet with a 4 speed. Good car but stock the Charger has way more grunt down low and handles tons better. Brakes, not so much.

I'll try to post pics next weekend.
