I'm looking at a 1970 charger 500 to buy and the add claims that it is a charger 500 with an original 318 motor, I thought that the only engines for the charger 500 were the 440 and the 426 Hemi, so does that mean that this is either a 500 clone or non original engine, or am I just mistaken on what engines could come in a 500?

The 69 500 was a NASCAR model (built to satisfy needs) w/the 440 or 426. The 70 was an option group on the std Charger, no real tie from year to year.

Moparjohn is correct.

The '69 500 was built for NASCAR. It had the sloped rear window and flush grille and came with a 440 or 426.

The '70 500 was an option group on the standard Charger. It had the normal tunneled rear window and the normal '70 grille & bumper.

The base '70 cost $3001.00 with a 6cyl and $3108.00 with a V8.
The '70 500 cost $3139.00 with a 6cyl and $3246.00 with a V8.
The '70 R/T cost $3711.00 with a V8.

So the only question now is, are you going to buy this car or what?

Im now considering it, it is an original motor so I dont want to separate it from the car, but it is also a small block and I want to get either a 440 or if possible a Hemi
