Ryan, there is a "correct" method which never worked for me...just can't seem to get the tabs bent without tweaking the top retainer (I don't have a copy of the service bulletin).  My method has been to put a worm gear hose clamp around the shaft and slide it down pushing it against the retainer. Then tap the tabs over with a hammer and punch, not the pliers method that just bends the retainer. Then remove the hose clamp.
Plan "B" is get one of these.       http://cgi.ebay.com/MOPAR-STEERING-COUPLER-CLAMP-YOU-NEED-THIS-LOOK_W0QQitemZ160227171151QQihZ006QQcategoryZ34200QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD1VQQcmdZViewItem

I have one on my Challenger and it solves all your problems. There are 2 different sizes, make sure you get the right one.

Hmmmm, I just bent the tabs a hair and slid it on, it bit on to the cast stubs.  :shruggy:

pre bend the tabs & snap it on then gently tighten the tabs , channellocks seem to do a good job

I tried everything mentioned when I did mine. After I started making four letter words up,  I bought one of the clamps. Chrysler sent out some type of update on the installation of the coupler back in the day, utilizing this clamp so the problem must be common. It makes the process much simpler and gives some piece of mind. Plus its a Mopar fix. I wonder how that clamp is looked at in the judging forum??
