so here we go guys - 1969 383 that I am swapping cams in...    for this bad boy together and guess what ? I'm having a problem.

The lifters are getting caught on the lobes to their forward AND the lobes they are supposed to be riding on...     The camshaft is basicly too far back in the block - causing a lifter misalignment...     heres the problem...    the cam can not go forward as the timing chain is hitting the timing chain cover...    I am using a Engle camshaft and a Coyes (sp?) 3 bolt timing set...

Am i missing something here ? if so - whats the problem ?  The timing chain gear too thick ? camshaft just casted incorrectly (unlikely in my opinion) ?

RT, have you installed the oil pump drive yet ? The OP drive will locate the cam in the correct location.  ;)

If the upper gear still hits the cover and everything else lines up (with the OP drive installed)....it's a flaw.

You could allways pull it and compare it to another cam and see what's up....assuming you cannot get it to work.

Installed the oil pump drive...          I'de rather not answer what the problem was...    Let me just say it was my fault and I don't wish to admit it...     I was having an off day today I guess...     :-\
