Front wheel bearings

I think i need new ones. I hear alittle noise coming from up there when i turn. everything else is new and tight. Will i need inner and outer bearings for both wheels? what about seals? Anything else besides greese? 73SE

If it's like the '71 you can jack the wheel in question up, wiggle it to feel for play, and see if they might just need adjusted. Still, if in doubt, probably best to pull, visually inspect, and repack at the least. Make sure they are repacked properly.

When mine went bad they made a noise -- kind of an unpleasant hum in turns...

Clean the bearings, inspect them -- looking for wear, bluing, messed up rollers, etc, pieces of metal in grease. If good, could always just repack and adjust to see if that fixes it. I've repacked the same bearings a number of times and reused the same seals. You just have to be gentle getting the seals out. I think they're supposed to be cleaned, repacked, and adjusted every 12,000 miles or so -- can't recall off the top.

The worst that can happen, I think, is when the bearing race in the rotor starts spinning. All sorts of bad things can happen then, including a bearing welded to the spindle. The race spun in my rotor once and I had to buy a new one.

But it never hurts to have spares, if you want: two outers, two inners, two seals, and a tub of good wheel bearing grease. Don't put it all back together too tight or too loose.

Why not try to get some stuff at your local NAPA and save on shipping?
I'd replace em' all Inners/Outers/Races

Cheap insurance IMHO.(This is coming from me, the guy who can't fix his brakes and wrecks his car so what do I know..How does that go, do as I say, not as I do...... )
