Put my R/T Taillights on my 73' Rally today....Pic's....

I am really happy with the out come of this. Thank you Jimmy Burrows for the taillights BTW.
  I think they look way nicer than the standard 7373' taillights.
I can't wait to put the R/T bulge on next weekend.
   Nacho, I was able to take the taillight sockets & wiring out of my old 73' set. Man, was that a rough little ordeal !

man that thing looks good, i've been debating if i should put my set on my 71 since i already used the hood and grill off the rt. but i really like the se taillights. maybe i shld put the hideaways back on . BTW think a nice set of craigers would look tough . very nice car

althought I'm not a fan of louvered tail lights I think they look pretty cool on this case... maybe because the deck lid decal gives a great frame !!!

did you made to remove the sockets like factory was ( removing the inner cup from the outer )? or bending the inner lips ?

I bent the lips Nacho.
Along with bending a screwdriver and nicks on the knuckes.

The problem was that I did not have the wiring for the 71' Tail lights. I had to use the wires from my 73' tails. The 73' tail light sockets are pressed into the housing.
I had to take a very small flat head screw driver and pry the socket lip up and push the sockets out of the 73' housings. Then I put them in the 71' housings and flattened the lip down with a center punch. It worked out nice but took forever to get the 73' sockets out of the housing. I wanted to be careful so that I would not damage the 73' housings.

yeah I guesses was prying the socket lips... is allmost imposible to remove the sockets on the way was mounted from factory. I had to replace a reverse light socket on one of my tail lights once and made it on same way with a donor one. With the damaged one proceed to "broken" it to discover how was really mounted and then was when I know was the inner cup and outside cup assembly

I love RT tailights. By far the coolest tailights to ever come out of Detroit, period. But, I'm going to be honest. I think the original lights look far better. The 73/74 tailights are way nicer than all the 71/72 tailights (except the RT, of course) and they look the best on 3/4 cars. I personally like them the way Chrysler built them best. Would you put 3/4 lights on a 71 RT? Probably not. I'm sure it been done though...

Another reason it looks funny to me, is because of the way the 3/4 bumper sticks out. I'm used to it with proper lights. but with 71/2 lights, the bumpers that stick out always look out of place.

You have a nice car, not insulting your car at all, but I think it looks much better original. There's 2 cents worth...

Thanks for the details.  When I got home yesterday afternoon, I checked mine and had the wiring still attached.  Guess I won't have the issues you did, just make the right splices and I should be ready to go.
