dies and wont restart

This isnt my charger but for a 69 ford f100 6 banger with points I have.  Today my truck died in the middle of an intersection.  It would crank, but would not start.  I had my buddy pull me to his house just right down the street and it started right up and I drove it3-4 miles back to my house.  it has done this once before , but restarted  eventually.  It always happens after sitting at a red light.  Lets me get about 10 foot and dies........Any ideas or suggestions?  The plugs are new in it, but havent changed the wires, coil or points yet.(not sure how to do the points)  any help would be a ppreciate.

My Charger used to do something similar. If I was at a stop sign or a traffic light and had been driving the car for more than 20 or so minutes, often when you would give it the gas to go, it would sputter and die. But it also almost always started right back up (maybe once or twice it didn't start immediately back up). I narrowed my problem down to the carb and the old points style ignition. I had them both changed at the same time and it has never done it again since. I really believe it was all in the carb though.

How hot is the engine running...what temp ? It could be electrical or fuel related

It runs normal about 180.  Just noticed one side of the carb. acclerator pump is leaking and other pump is gunked up with gum.  Iam thinking i found the problem.

I had a  problem like that years  ago and it was water in the tank that worked up to the crab.
