Flywheel and clutch question

I am stroking a 383 to a 496. I have 2 flywheels. One is the 130 tooth and the other is the 143 tooth. Which one do I use. The 130 tooth and 10 1/2 inch clutch is less rotating mass, but the 11 inch clutch is more disc material for grabbing. I think BB's had the 143 tooth and the 130's were for the SB's. Is this right? I need to know which flywheel to get resurfaced and which size clutch assembly to order.

I think I read somewhere that in 71 or so, everything had 10-1/2 inch setup.  Of course, you will have to have the appropriate bell housing.  You might call Brewer Performance and talk to them.  Also call Centerforce and discuss.  I believe either will work fine.  As far as the weight of the rotating mass, someone else will have to address that who has some street/drag racing experience.  Don't forget that using the Centerforce type multifinger clutch will reduce the pedal effort by 1/2.

For steet use i would use the complete 143 tooth setup from Mcleod. Flywheel, Dual disc clutch, hydraulic !
The small diameter, hi pressure ones will overheat much faster on the street, and harsh to control.
Since we only live once, and all this is not just a dressed rehearsal, but the real thing............ Well, enjoy it!!!!

As much as I would like to get a whole setup, money is a factor. I think I will resurface the 143 tooth and order up a Centerforce DF clutch assembly and call it good. Thanks guys. :2thumbs:

In '70 the factory started using a scalloped 10.95" clutch which has the 10.5" bolt pattern on the 130 tooth flywheel. Many factory pubs call this an 11" clutch but it's different than the 11" used on the 143 tooth flywheel..
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

Call brewers and talk to them first.  I just ordered a mcleod clutch kit for my car from them and they price wasnt much more then the centerforce stuff.  they spec'd the clutch for my application which is a stroked 383 as well.  id call them.
