I need to know if I should bother trying to fix my current 318.  It sounds like its fine, and feels decent, but since I was lied to about so much else when I bought the car, I wonder if this thing is actually crap.  That said, I wanted to know if you guys knew anywhere I could get a new/rebuilt/"used but in good shape" motor for not too much money, or would it be more cost effective to just have this one fixed up?  Budget is a huge deal right now.

Only thing to do is have a compression or leak-down test performed on the engine and see what condition it's in.  It sucks when you're new or otherwise inexperienced to the hobby.  You don't know what to look for or what to ask and you end getting a car that you know next to nothing about...

Yep, would try a compression test and see how it goes. If you want i'll be in LI this weekend, could always pass by with the compression gauge and see what ya got going on??

DAMMIT!!!  of course, I am home like every weekend, and this weekend I will be in PA for paintball!!!  We spend the whole weekend there, so I wont be home at all.  I read this post and got all excited because I was gonna say "HELL YEAH!!!" but then I realized I wont be home and that just sucks.  Why are you gonna be in LI this weekend?

OMG YEAH!!!  Next weekend would be great.  I should be home all day on Saturday.  I'm checking with the GF now to make sure.  I never know our schedule.  Seriously, that would be awesome!
