Is it late timing or early timing that would cause motor to run warmer than usual?

Thanks

.............It sure can, plus it wastes fuel...........kim..........

Do both late and early timing cause more heat and usage of more fuel?  What causes this to happen when the timing is late?  You wouldn't happen to have some pointers on tuning a carter AVS carb?  I want to adjust the air/fuel on it.  I'm going to pick up a vacuum gauge today.

Thanks.

When timing is late, fuel is going out the exhaust port before it's had a chance to exert it's full pressure against the top of the piston.  A similar thing can happen with too much advance except that the pressure wave has "burnt" itself out before it pushes the piston.  The engineers out there are likely cringing right now at the way I've oversimplified it but that'll give you the general idea.
If you look on the Edelbrock website, I think they have a good tuning primer there.  The Edyy Thunder series carbs are essentially an AVS with the two step AFB style rods.
