Troy the one thing I learned after going TV shopping last year is it's always best to stick with the big brands. LG, Samsung, Toshiba are probably your best bets for TVs. Theres alwasy new brands popping up but the best way to shop is going to best buy or circuit city where they have all the TVs on so you can compare them.  If after you get your Direct TV dish and you dont see a big difference in quality, talk to the wife and see if she wouldn't mind exchanging. My parents just baught a LG 47inch 1080i and it beats the hell out of my 50 inch plasma  :'( . Good luck with it, if you need anymore help just ask.

After looking into all this BS for the past three months or so I've decided it's just too convoluted and inconclusive to drop $1,500+ on a friggin' flat screen LCD or plasma TV right now. Companies are already making TVs in the 1080 resolution which stations won't be broadcasting in for probably two years. Then there's the battle between BlueRay and HD technology and I heard about another new projection technology coming out soon that's supposed to "blow the competition away" like everything else already has. The video stores near my home have something like 20 titles in both HD and BlueRay so you know that's shaping up to be another Beta vs. VHS war. The good news about all this is that the $400 bulb inside these big $1,800 TVs won't last until Feb. '09 so you can at least enjoy them until then.

Me, I'm going to wait until some guy wants to offload his two-year-old, 42-inch tube set for $50 and then I'm going to take my two govt. vouchers down to Radio Shack next Feb and buy a couple digital receivers/converters until this all gets ironed out.

I've had a Visio 47" 1080p lcd for almost a year. no complaints, great picture, best audio compared to any of the other brands and at the time, half the price.

Well,, got a Blu-Ray player and movie to see my Vizio's capability... That thing rocks !!!! Sooo, my resolution on my cable tv HD channels isn't my tv, it's the service.. Looks like I'm going DirecTv or Dish Network...

Nice.

I've been looking at smaller flat screen TV's recently to replace an old TV in a spare room. I didn't pay much attention to Vizio because I hadn't heard of the brand up until about a year ago. I saw one on display last week with a Blu-Ray disc demo, & was surprised how nice the picture was. They seem very reasonable in price, so if I decide to replace the slightly blurry, slightly off-color, 25" RCA picture tube TV from 1978, with no remote, a broken keypad, & a speaker that doesn't work, I'll probably consider one.  :D
