Estimated cost to completely rebuild a 440

I have a 1967 440 motor is that locked up. It is still in a 67 Chrysler Newport/New Yorker. I haven't torn it apart or anything so I don't know how bad it is. But I would like to get an estimate of how much it would cost to completly rebuild this motor from top to bottom. I can get a deal on a few select parts and I have someone that will do machine work for cheaper than most. I just want to know what kind of bill I should expect at the end. I have decided this motor needs to go in my car in place of the 318. Any help would be appreciated.

Pretty much a stock motor with maybe just a little bigger cam. Aluminum Intake, Headers. A nice cruising motor nothing radical

i just built a pretty healthy 440 with  30 over pistons and rods  for $ 2250.00 with machine work ,most parts came from 440 source and summit.
not including intake or carbs and mine has stock ex haust manifolds

Dont forget that you will be replacing the transmission and drive shaft too.  Plus, you will need the correct manifolds or headers and the rest of the exhaust system.  Also, the motor mounts, radiator, air cleaner.  Not sure what year your Charger is.  But you have a 318.  What rearend do you have.  If it's a 8-1/4 you may need to replace it with 8-3/4.  What about the brakes?  Most 318 cars had manual 10 inch drums all the way around.  You will want to put disc's up front.  New booster to work with it possibly. After all, you will want to be able to get out of trouble as fast or faster than you get into it.  And don't forget torsion bars.  Probably will want larger ones.  So putting a 440 in a Charger starts costing a lot of money.

But back to the motor.  I think that was set up with 10:1 compression ratio.  That may be too high for currently available pump gas.  But if you just build the motor back stock and kept the costs to the absolute minimum, then you might have to turn the crank, get new rod and main bearings, bore the engine, new pistons, rings, seal kit, head job, head gaskets, plugs, plug wires, water pump, thermostat, oil pump, gasket set, rebuild carb, make decision on whether to keep existing distributor or buy new unit (from Mopar Performance) to eliminate the points, probably manifold hardware set, engine paint, fuel pump, new radiator, hoses, new power steering pump hose, rebuild power steering pump, new rebuilt alternator, fan clutch, radiator cap, fan belts.  I have probably left something out.  Probably somewhere between $1500 and $2500 minimum just for the engine and directly related stuff.

Just my  :Twocents:
Since there are many reasons it could be "locked", and we assume ther to be no "catastrophic" (broken block, crank etc...) damage. Plan on spending about $5,000 to get the project to the point that you can turn the key and make some tire smoke!

My motor was stuck and I have that 5000.00 in  it with a new six pack carb and intake which was 2000.00 of it .   :Twocents:

I have virtually nothing in the motor and transmission. I am going to sell the body off after i pull the motor. I know a seized up motor isn't worth much anyway but its a good year.

Exactly what Chatt69chgr said. You will need a transmission and driveshaft to go with the engine and you will probally need a 8 3/4 rearend since your car probally has a 8 1/4. And disc brakes too to handle the 440.

I rebuilt my '67 440 for about $2500. The included a rebuild kit that was $1050, $750 in machine work, and about $700 in extras like a new carb, distributor, and various other items. Check around at different machine shops to get a good deal on the work.
